Lever Guns Talk Thread

Postby PacmanSurvival » Thu May 26, 2011 1:18 pm

Didn't see anything for lever guns, and I recently decided (with approval from the little lady) that I'm going to add a new addition to my firearms collection.
Really looking at this slick Marlin 1895 SBL in .45-70 Govt.

Like lever guns?
Talk about them here. :D

.30-30 isn't bad, it's on par with 7.62x39 isn't it?

I think .30-30 is a little bit more hot of a round, it travels with a lot more speed from what I understand.
All I know is it goes bang and whatever is on the other end wont be liking it :D

Here is my Puma Model 92 in .357 Magnum. Love this little gun. Very handy, currently at the gunsmith getting a tune up.

This is my current project, which started out as a Marlin SDT 1895 in .45-70 that I have modded out.

This is my Grizzly Custom in .35 rem. Lots of custom work on this gun...with a high price tag accordingly. The lever is butter smooth and I can throw that thing faster then any lee-enfield I have every tried. I simply can not go back to stock lever actions again, and I would highly suggest that you all have a good smith work on your lever as it makes all the difference in the world. It took me a while to finalize all the mods on this rifle but I am happy with what I have on it right now, just installed the Burris 1-4x with its illuminated sight and I am digging it.

It has a little kick when I shoot .357, but when I shoot 38 Special it is like shooting a .22, just a louder bang! :D

What all did you have done to it to make it better?
The Marlin SBL 1895 is going to be my first lever gun, so I'm not sure where to start in terms of making it better or smoother.

I have a Rossi 44mag with 16" barrel on layaway @ PSA. I'm seriously thinking of SBRing it down to a 10" barrel. :D

I forgot you can shoot .38 special in .357 guns lol, that would be a pretty nice plinking rifle.

It is great rifle, I like having a pistol and rifle that share ammo. They aren't my go to pair, but they are a great back up set.

That's true, I love that all my rifles are in 7.62x39, so they all use the same ammunition, which is nice, might get a Draco pistol somewhere down the road just for the hell of it.

I've been very happy with my Marlin 1895 reworked by Wild West. It's in .457 Wild West Magnum now, which will chamber 45-70 and .410.

My favorite/most used levergun, a stainless .44 mag Marlin.

Not too many upgrades: XS sights and scout mount, Gunslinger spring kit, Leupy 30mm QD rings and a shotgun recoil pad for some extra LOP.

The scope is a 25 year old Tasco 2X with a sorta German #1 style reticle with an illuminated red triangle at the tip of the bottom post.

Have a few myself-

Marlin 1894c .357mag w/XS GRS, scout rail, and a Burris FastFire. (it's my woobie) Soon to wear a big-loop. I've never touched a handier long gun in my life.

Marlin 336 30-30 w/XS GRS, scout rail, synthetic stock. Will be wearing a Burris 1.5-4x handgun scope by fall.

Sears Ted Williams Model 100 30-30 (essentially a top-eject Winchester 94) no mods.

Finally decided to get myself a camera so I'll throw up some pics of all of them soon. I'd use my phone, but the quality (or lack thereof) of the images it provides is just embarrassing

Next long gun purchase is an 1895G.

I fondled one in the store about 2 days ago, the loop feels nothing short of perfect.

I'd like to have a nice lever gun in .357, so it could share ammo with my Chiappa Rhino.

AMAZING love for the LEVER!

To this day, it's still probably the most natural weapon for me to shoot. These days, all I have are fairly practical/tactical guns. But man...somewhere on the list is to get a lever again.

Marlin 336 in .357 magnum (and a Ruger gp100 6" to go with it!): 38 for plinking, 38sp +p for smaller/closer business, 357 125JHP for SD, and heavy .357 for critters as big as deer out to 150. Little .38 shot rounds for snake!

Winchester 94 in .30-.30 - It's the AK47 of the West. Perfect all around shooter!

The .336/GP100 is my recommended low key SHTF firearm combo for the hunter/non-tactical crowd. Levers are awesome.

Actually, while I wouldn't hunt them with it, If you get/load some .357mag at the upper reaches of it's performance envelope, out of a carbine barrel, it's even a reasonable (non-Kodiak) bear defense round. Run heavy hard-cast flat-nose and just keep it close.

I've even heard-tell of guys packing .357 levers in AK, but certainly nothing I could substantiate, and as much as I love mine, an 1895G is on my list because there's an excellent chance of an upcoming trip to Alberta, and in brown-bear country I see myself feeling a fair bit more confidence in the 45/70 gummint.

I really want a Marlin 1894 in .327 magnum...... One with a loading gate on the receiver, not the end of the magazine tube.
