I've got a RRA on my AR pistol and it's worked fine for me, for a fair bit less than $60, plus RRA runs free shipping most of the time.

[edit] Looks like it's $40 with free shipping and includes a spring and buffer.

Thanks Pete. Looks like 60 was steep and others pointed me to ones that are 40 too.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert here but while doing research for my own AR I discovered that even if a tube is mil-spec sized it may not be made out of the proper mil-spec aluminum. This could theoretically cause issues if you have to pogo stick the rile or otherwise put allot of force on the receiver extension, but I don;t know if it is really goin to be an issue for most people. I ended up getting a whole tube/stock/spring/buffer set from VLTOR.

I now own a PSA lower, and on the way is a blemished upper. Any recommendations for affordable rear sights? I know everyone speaks highly of the Magpuls, but are they durable enough for tactical courses?

I'm going to be using it until I get a red dot way down the line, but it may be a long while. Open to either.

In a fixed rear, Troy's the best value (IMO) in a fixed rear, DD A1.5 is nicer and likely more robust for $10-20 more. The MagPul rears are good backups because they add no appreciable weight, but I wouldn't want one as a primary.

I'm looking at the same price or so for each, maybe $10 more for the Troy. However, if I get an optic later on, would I regret having a fixed and not the folding? Trying to only buy one sight, once.

Depends on the optic. A cowitnessed RDS or holographic won't be a problem. Magnified could be.

I have the troy and the DD and agree with your assesment that the dd is a bit better. Both are over kill quality for anything I'll ever ask of them (Says the guy who broke a MWI fsp mount somehow...). I do complete cowitness with an eotech and like it (and haven't tried anything else either though).

I may pick one of these up. Ejection port cover isn't mission-critical gear, so a broke one is NBD, but more importantly, NO MORE C-CLIPS.

Should post this in terminal ballistics thread but I think it'll be seen more here. Got 100 rounds of Hornady Steel Match .223 75gr BTHP. At .40c/rd I'm thinking of making it my go to defensive load.

Thoughts?

Gel test it. It's not TAP (different projectile) and it's 200FPS slower out the gate than the Supermatch with the same bullet. Supermatch isn't too hot in gel from the few tests I've seen.

Anyone here own/used the Spike's upper?

AIM has the Spike's Middy MOE complete upper for 519$ free shipping. It's how I would build one if I chose parts.

I been pulling overtime this week so I'm trying to spend my money in advance lmao

I like the 14.5'' Spike's but they attach their Dynacomp and that thing is BRIGHT in the slow-mo vids I watched.

Hmm...I may be able to get a .750 dia AR 308 gas block cheap, would that work on an AR 15? What would be the major difference? Might pick it up anyway, for a 308 build later.

Hello ladies and gents!

Just pulled the trigger on two PSA blem lowers and a LPK-FCG. Now I have some questions for you all.

Going to stay well away from PTAC (4-6 MOA? *blech*) but:

Looking for a good deal on a pistol upper (pref in the 10-14" range).
Looking for a good deal on a 16" upper, with or without BCG/CH. I'd prefer below 4 MOA, but beyond that I have almost no preference besides it not being a quad rail.
Also, good place for GI trigger packs?

What is the advice of the ZS Hivemind for this new AR builder? Currently backreading this thread, but at ~300 pages that'll take a while.

Just sent this email to some friends....
I wrote: We're going to build you an AR for under $600 (not including shipping and FFL fee)
First if you have limited funds buy this NOW while it's on sale:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... e-kit.html
Cost: $430. (save $170)

Second you're going to need a lower receiver. Just so happens they sell a blemished lower too:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... lower.html
Cost: $50 (saved $70)

Finally you'll need a rear sight
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... ers-1.html
Cost: $55.

$430 for the kit + $50 lower receiver + $55 rear optic = $535 + plus FFL fee and shipping costs. Savings: $240. You should be under $600 even with the FFL and shipping fees.

Enjoy!
One friend already ordered said shipping was around $17 and his FFL transfer is costing $30.

How do CMV's rate in the world of AR uppers? If they produce better than 4 MOA I'm sold.
