That's funny.
It's probably grease from when they installed the barrel nut.

FWIW my latest middy from bcm had visible grease around the delta ring area from barrel nut/whatever instillation also. It will go away eventually.

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.
Need an upper to (almost) finish my build. Found two complete ones I really dig. Both come with CH and BCG.
1.) Stag Model 2 upper, 16" Carbine length w/ MI Rear sight for $500. I'd need to shave the FSB, add a Alpha/Bravo rail and get a front sight. Not too expensive... hopefully. Pick up is about 45 minutes away.
or
2.) BCM upper, DD 16" Carbine length barrel, Alpha rail and Troy sights for $925. This one is pretty much exactly how I want it. Requires shipping halfway across the states (already added in the package).
I'd prefer a 14.5" mid-length gas system barrel, but meh. Both are pretty wicked, just need help making a decision.

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.
Is the "BCM"-upper built by BCM and does it have a BCM BCG? If yes then this is a better deal than the Stag if you're going to end up with a upper looking like this anyways. Better barrel, BCG and sights + a handguard already installed.

Re: All purpose
When you spray painted your AR yellow you missed the buffer tube and the optic. With those two black parts it won't blend in up against a Caterpillar backhoe, which I assume is the purpose of the paint job.gravediggerfour wrote:

I always tape off the extension and the optic/ mount/ hand stop are new so they were not on at time of rattle canning.

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.
This thread is get very pretty lately.
I'm having trouble making up my mind on something that's really frustrating. I bought three 80% lowers from Ares Armor in December, was charged about a week later (still in December), and still no word from them. Between their Facebook page and the arfcom thread about them, I'm far from being the only one who's really pissed off now. We got a date of April 20th for one shipment, now May 8th for another, and folks who ordered in December are still without their lowers that we were charged for back then. Some people have gotten replies to their emails, and some haven't, and I'm in the latter group.
I liked the idea of an 80% lower for a few reasons, one of course is that (if you have a machine shop or access to one, and the skill), you can put any engraving on it that you like, and paint it with any choice of ceramic paints to get exactly what you want. The only thing you can't do is sell it to someone else (unless you put in for a serial number, which is a good idea anyway), but if you're going through the trouble to make it so personalized, this isn't really an issue. The other reason is that you know exactly how good your tolerances are going to be, so (to a degree), you can work any play out of the receiver halves.
Now that lowers are coming back in reliable stock for $100, the difference is about $100 more for three of them over the 80%'s, including my FFL's fee. I'm wondering if I should just keep waiting, or get my money back and buy regular lowers so I can finish a build I've been accumulating parts for as I managed to find them over the past year.

Since we are playing:
Did this earlier this evening. The pistols have moved from the lid and are now under the rifle layer since they didn't stay put like I hoped
Also cut some circles for sling storage.

Kind of wishing I went with the bigger case now, so I could have put 2 rifles in. Oh well.

What kind of cases are those that you guys are using, where you can cut out the foam to fit? I've been looking for something like that.

Pelican cases. They are spendy, but I'm sure there are other options out there.ClearD wrote:What kind of cases are those that you guys are using, where you can cut out the foam to fit? I've been looking for something like that.
