Mossberg 500 and Aguila mini shells

Post by delarey » Fri Dec 12, 2014 6:54 am

Thinking of starting a shotgun project that would benefit from mild recoiling ammo and higher capacity. The mossberg 500 is the only shotty that comes in the configuration I need for this project...at a decent price point.
Will the mini 12ga shells cycle through a 500?

Check around, you can mod a 500 to run them fine. 870s will not run them in my experience, some Winchester 1300s will.
Opinions subject to change in light of new information.

I know some guys that swear thier 870's run them just fine, I don't have access to the Aquilas to try it myself. I'ld heard the 500 could be modded but figured he was just talking stock gun.

Cant find any videos of 870's not feeding the Aguila shells.

I've run the shorter shot shells through my Mossberg with mixed results. Some times they'll cycle through, often times they won't. They get turned around in the lift and don't properly seat. Not dangerous, just not consistent.

If recoil is an issue, have you thought about getting a 20 gauge instead?

I've considered a 20ga, but I'm pretty heavily into 12ga and 410. I'd hate to add another...hmmm may finally get into shots he'll reloading it looks like :) Thanks for the info, everyone!

A little late here, but.....

I have an M-590A1 that I keep for home defense, I don't use aguilla shells, but I do load these 2" 00 buck shellsfrom Italy. I beleive they're made by Nobel but these were under the "centurion" brand. My shottie cycles and fires them flawlessly, ymmv.

well, i talked to a armorer in my area gun shop, and he say that if the ammo is in it catalog he can special order them for me, but i got to order a whole crate so it worth the order,

i guess it a good thing, but it will be expensive.

A crate can always come in handy!
