Like America, Russia is continuously producing surplus. You typically order more than you need, and production over runs that do not end up getting used are sold. Likewise new technology for everything from uniforms to fire arms to field gear is always coming out, causing older gear, weapons etc to be phased out and sold as surplus.

So I guess my answer is, a lot and never.

And remember, when it came to making guns and ammo, they really didn't have a limit. They had the supplies, the factories and the labor for cheap. They turned out huge, mind-boggling quantities. Yes, lots of it has been stolen, traded or otherwise "disappeared". But my guess is they still have warehouses full of things to sell.

I've heard reports that Russia still had warehouses of T-34s even a few years ago. The Soviets tended to packrat things instead of scrapping them when they became obsolete, so the Russians likely have scads and scads of surplus laying around. Case in point, all of those Mosin-Nagants that flooded the market a few years back. Some of those rifles pre-dated WWII and the Russians still had them squirreled away in cosmoline for a rainy day.

Those guys can't even keep track of their nukes. A full accounting of every Mosin, SKS and spam can is just about impossible. The only real answer is: Less than they had last year. At one point 8mm ammo was sold at gunshows by the pallet. So were .303 and 7.62x25 in their heyday. Krag rifles were once a few dollars and sporterized into obscurity. The Mosin will be the next dodo bird of the gun world. They'll never run out, until they're all gone.

5.45 will go first. Nobody shoots their Mosin enough to really dent the surplus, and Iszmash has talked about exporting an updated (with working safety) modelto compete at the bottom of the bolt actions, but nothing's happened yet. There's a slim chance 7.,62x54R could become the next .30-06 in the US. An outmoded, outdated surplus round that gets a foothold because it's cheap and then hangs on long enough to move to non-surplus calibers and ammunition.
Opinions subject to change in light of new information.

I was talking more about the rifles themselves, rather than the ammo. The AK-74 may very well be the first to go but it has never been "by the crate" cheap. That's what gives the Mosin it's "dodo" quality.
