I just remember my dad complaining about some shop refusing to sell him the stuff because he didn't have some permit.

Send this to him and tell him to get on it!
That should be enough for the life of his truck or atleast until a rebuild!

Seeing as Dad died last month, it may be a bit hard for me to do that, dude.
He had an early 2000's model Chevy Silverado that got totaled when the big rig t-boned him and killed him.
I may see if my Explorer could benefit from an A/C flush and refill, though.

that thing is like, a $10,000 dollar fine for every trigger pull? Releasing R12 into the atmosphere is a big no-no, isn't it?

Well sorry to hear that man you didn't tell us.
You shouldn't have to flush it unless you plan to change to a different freon.

During the last few years, HVAC shops in my AO have begun paying customers for the R-12 in old refrigerators, central heating/air pumps, and AC units during an upgrade. One auto shop offered free upgrades and AC refurbs if the auto had R-12 in it. From what I hear R-12 is a serious ozone killer, and the EPA offers a cash reward if you report someone releasing it into the atmosphere.
Of course, now it's easy to point at the guy who designed the Freon BB-gun and give him a hearty "HA-HA" Nelson-style, but hindsight is 20/20. The WTF I get from that BB gun is from the trigger. Take a good look at it. WTF, dude?

I wonder if the magazines are interchangeable? And are they the same caliber?

You're talking about ozone killing when one NASA space shuttle launch punches a 4+ million BTU hole directly in the ozone layer. One launch is like letting ten million 30lb r12 bottles open up and shooting it directly to the atmosphere.

Regardless if it makes a hole or not there is no argument that a few bottles of R12 can do anything when compared to a shuttle launch. Also here is the MSDS for chlorine gas which is extremely toxic and put out by the space shuttles if you might not have known.

If you want to continue this discussion then PM me and I will be glad to talk about refrigerant, gasses, or any hazmat question you have since I am hazmat operational certified I know what I'm talking about.
