July ZS Postal Match

Postby elricfate » Wed Jul 11, 2012 11:51 am

It's that time again, folks! Time for the July ZS Postal Match! You will find your scenario below, as well as your targets. Have fun!

Prize: TBD by the ZS board. (Soon enough there will be a concensus on a standard postal match prize, I've been told)

You escaped, but just barely. You seem to have suffered a number of wounds, thankfully they're simple and weren't of the bitey, scratchy, zombie-y type. You did jam your arm pretty good sliding into the vehicle, and you seem to have caught a nasty bullet wound to your non-dominant arm. As you think back, you realize this happened while you were escaping, but the adrenaline dump masked it. It wasn't until you'd made it back to your vehicle that you even noticed the burning, throbbing pain. It looks like it passed through the meat of your forearm and didn't hit bone, but it already stinks of burnt flesh and hair. Since there doesn't appear to be a gaping cavity, you must've been hit with small arms at a decent range and only caught the hot lead instead of the explosive force around it as well.

You pull out some Kerlix from the FAK you keep in your vehicle and wrap it while driving to your hacienda.

Time passes and the sounds of human occupation around your area pass with it. You don't hear engines or small arms fire in the night like you did the first two days after arriving back at your homestead. The soft and steady moans of the dead seem to have tapered off as they plod after the survivors from the camp where you were kept. What you have noticed, however, is the smell of rot under the bandages you keep changing, and the slow push of bruised flesh from the bullet wound. Today you even noticed small blue streaks directly around it, they almost look like veins... you check your supplies, but you don't have anything that can treat an infection of this nature.

With resentment toward the world coming to an end, and resignation at the choice you have to make, you load up and make your way to ground zero, your local hospital. You know that it was mostly gutted, but that was while the infection was spreading and no one, to your knowledge, has been there since. Though you hate the idea of entering that building, the infection in your arm forces the issue. In you go, baby bird.

You enter through the emergency room ambulance delivery entrance, the easiest set of double doors to get through since the power went out. They're wide open, blood splatters, trails, and hand prints appear to be permanently etched into the floors and walls, but there's not a single sound in the ER. As you edge quietly around open doors, you notice that while the emergency lighting went out a long time ago you can still make out shapes with the light streaming through the windows in those rooms.

Taking your time, you take note that the next section of hall is mostly pitch black due to the fact that the side doors are all closed and there aren't any windows in the interior of the hospital. You click on your light and move down the hall, checking the signs for the word "Pharmacy" and the doors for any indication of where antibiotics might have been stored.

As you stop to rest you notice, now, that there is a quiet shuffling behind you. You turn and see three roamers coming down the hall with the intent of eating you for their brunch. You turn to fire, but just as you're squeezing off the first round, a crawling, half eaten corpse lunges at you from the floor.

Please print four of the targets included in this post (you may also use the Alternative target if your range master does not allow silhouette targets) and use two rounds per target. There are no caliber restrictions, and you may choose a weapon you are comfortable with.

Targets (as well as expanded rules) are available on the Postal Match details page, or the links at the end of this post. Please send all targets to postalmatch@zombiehunters.org. In the event of a tie, targets will be judged based on how close to the bullseye they were. Remember all targets should be printed on 8.5"x11" paper for scoring purposes. You have a total of two shots per target, four targets, use them wisely.

Remember targets are due no later than July 31st at 11:59pm (EST). Good luck!

Target: Zombies(1 at 25 yards, 3 at 50 yards)

Alt. Target: Zombies Alt (1 at 25 yards, 3 at 50 yards)

Neat. Good reason to test out my new Savage 93r17.

Gonna have to see if I can get in on this one for a change. I usually don't make it to a range in time while thinking about it, but I am going to the range this weekend.

Sounds like a good pistol scenario...
If the X is worth 11, shouldn't it be the XI?

Shot this one today with my 8MM Mauser and a broken finger. I was really a little worried right before I took the first shot but once the gun went off and I wasn't screaming in pain I figured it was going to be a good day.

Good luck everybody! Have fun with the match and stay safe!

We have our winner.

duodecima, with a total score of 63 points. I will be in touch with someone from the board to get you a prize picked out and sent.

The following was the equipment she used.

Weapon - Savage Mark II with optic sights
Ammunition - CCI Standard Velocity 22LR

Our honorable mention is Troy Adam.

I have to say, it came down to measuring the distance between shots and the bullseye on this one. Good work folks!

We paid movers to move our junk because we didn't want to do it one more time. And thank you.

As for the match, well, better late than never. And now that things have calmed down, I might get things done on time.
