Milcopp Carbine Course: Columbia, SC Cancelled for now.

Postby Regular Guy » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:25 pm

Until I can find an alternate site to the Mid-Carolina Rifle Range this course is suspended. I'm still looking for a site to hold the course. I need to do some leg work. I apologize but we tried and we were stonewalled.

I'm pleased to announce that there will be a fall Milcopp Carbine Course in Columbia, SC at the Mid-Carolina Rifle Club. This course is tentatively* slated to take place the first weekend in November. It will be a two day course consisting of practical/tactical use of the carbine and pistol.

Expect to fire approximately 2000 rds of rifle and 600 rds of pistol. Generally, Milcopp charges $350 for a two day course. This price may change, I'm not speaking for Milcopp, just speaking from experience with them.

What you'll need:
Defensive Carbine + At least 6 good mags (If you need to review what this carbine should be, go to http://www.milcopptactical.com and review their discussion on the fighting carbine.)
Ammo
Pistol + At least 6 good mags
A rig to carry said items
Rain gear/Hot weather gear (It's Columbia, we could have anything from perfect weather to snow)
Lunch and drinks will be provided.

At the range we have multiple bays and a 200m range.

Please tag this thread for interest/participation.
*Depends on how much arguing I have to do with the staff at Mid Carolina.

The price will be higher. Sorry, but travel cost is making us have to adjust accordingly. Let's post a date and I'll contact the range; we already have permission to teach as MilCopp Tactical, so that should make it smoother.

I know it isnt a rifle caliber gun, but what about using a sub2000 for the carbine class?
I have no witty quotes at the moment.

It should be fine. I see no reason why not.

No pain, no gain. Depending on how life progresses, I may have time to upgrade back into AK territory, but if I had to do the class this weekend, it would be the s2k...

I might be interested. Can someone please tell me what I would expect to learn in the course, and (no disrespect) why I should learn from MilCopp?

AARs:
viewtopic.php?f=111&t=80318&start=96
http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopi ... 11&t=69881
viewtopic.php?f=111&t=95444

Expect to learn reloading, malfunction drills, movement, shooting positions, shooting fundamentals and advanced technqiues.

Why learn from Milcopp? Their price is very reasonable, both Doc and Dave are very knowledgeable and are able to convey that knowledge, and put it into practice. And it's a blast.

I think I can make this. I just checked with my school schedule, and the class isn't during exams, so I should be okay. Will there be restrictions on the # of participants?

I do not believe so. This is not me having 'guests' but Milcopp running a class. Massive paradigm shift.

There are plenty of After Action Reports (including a very recent one) of MilCopps courses. One of the instructors is a Moderator here. The other frequently posts here on ZS. They have a website and facebook page. You could PM either one and just ask.

I don't know if you meant it, but you came off like an ass.

Oh, and this course will be booked. Calling that right now.

Thanks for answering my question. I'll read through those threads when I get a chance.

I don't see how I came off as an ass, but I didn't mean to. I asked an honest question, and I think it deserved an honest answer. I didn't find Doc's answer helpful. In fact, I found it confusing.

I'll probably regret this but once you meet Doc, all things will be answered as to why you found his response confusing. Then you'll wonder why you doubted Milcopp.

Really, I've trained with other outfits and Milcopp rocks for the attention you get.

I'm sure that Doc and I will get along fine, assuming that he drinks beer and that he lets me buy him one. I don't doubt MilCopp. I just don't know much about it, and I like to gather information before making a decision. That's why I asked.

So far, I'm gathering that MilCopp has a big following here. There seem to be a lot of positive testimonials, and that's great. But how are the new people supposed to know that?
