April ZS Postal Match (Handgun only)

Postby elricfate » Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:57 pm

It's that time again, folks! Time for the April ZS Postal Match! You will find your scenario below, as well as your targets. Have fun!

Prize: TBD by the ZS board.

After a rough week of your greenhouse being destroyed and your unfortunate run-in while scavenging, you've decided that today is going to be your "putter around the homestead" day. Though you're going to be, relatively, relaxing, you won't be sitting still. There are several sections of fence around your land that need repairs and you figure better late than never.

You put on your belt holster with your handgun of choice, a tool belt, and grab a handful of nails. After a lengthy walk in the sun, the normally active birds have suddenly become silent. We all know that animals tend to quiet down when predators are present, so you immediately go on the defensive, drawing your handgun and taking stock of the area around you. From the wood line near your fence you see two roamers stumbling around. You sneak closer to the two without them noticing you've come close enough to be prey and draw down.

In the back of your mind, you know this is going to be loud and likely draw the attention of anything in the vicinity, but you're more concerned with putting down the threat so you can continue your repairs.

Please print two of the targets included in this post (you may also use the Alternative target if your range master does not allow silhouette targets) and use three rounds per target. There are no caliber restrictions, but you are restricted to handgun (pistol or revolver) only.

Targets (as well as expanded rules) are available on the Postal Match details page, or the links at the end of this post. Please send all targets to postalmatch@zombiehunters.org. In the event of a tie, targets will be judged based on how close to the bullseye they were. Remember all targets should be printed on 8.5"x11" paper for scoring purposes. You have a total of three shots per target, two targets, use them wisely.

Remember targets are due no later than April 30th at 11:59pm (EST). Good luck!

Target: Zombies (25 yards)

Alt. Target: Zombies Alt (25 yards)

Sweet!!! I think I just might go shoot this tonight if I get out of work early.

Is it three targets, or two? The instructions seem to indicate both...?

Please print two of the targets

You have a total of two shots per target, three targets

Yea, that was my bad mixing up the numbers. It's two targets, three shots. Edited the first post to reflect this.

Nah, no worries. Now if I can remember my targets when I go to the range :?
With a month to shoot this, I think should be fine

If you shot like you did last time, three shots in each target, you'll be fine.

Silly n00b question, but I can't find it in the rules - fire from standing or is bench +/- sandbags allowed?

Doesn't matter to me. It's a fun postal match, if everyone wants to bench shoot, or offhand shoot, or whatever, I don't mind.

What do you think about judging kids separately if enough enter? I think it would be a fun way for them to practice without always having to go up against more experienced adults.

If you want to have kids shoot separately, I can judge them separately, but as is there's only one prize offered by the board, so in all fairness, that should go to our Forum members (adults)

The kids could do it for bragging rights, though.

I didn't even think of that. I am cool with bragging rights for the kids, but others may want their kids to have a shot at the prize. I'd love to hear other parents' thoughts on this.

I'm sure that it would be something my son would want to do since he goes to the range shooting with me anyway.

Isn't 25 yards a bit far for a handgun shoot?

That's the shoot. If you feel like you can't do it, that's okay, don't enter this month. You can enter next month. :D

Weeelll, with sandbags, it gets doable, if one happens to have a scope on a handgun, it gets really doable. Even if it's kinda windy.

If that's too much advantage for this shoot I'm fine with it, I had fun at the range doing it anyway.

I'm fighting with my scanner at the moment, can I fax or mail the targets if I can't make it work? (never mind, I just saw the line about digital photo, I can do that!)

Heh, I like to make things challenging from time to time, the past two months have been pretty easy compared to this one. Can't have it be cake the whole time, can we?

25 with a handgun really isn't that bad.

This should be a fun one. Ive been meaning to get in on one, but over the past 3 months I've gotten married and bought a house. Now I finally have time to hit up the range again!

This sounds like a fun contest to participate in. I printed out my 2 targets, now... if the wind would quit blowing around here long enough for me to get in some time to shoot it out with them :)

Is there any problem with me taking the pdf file down to Office Max and letting them print me a case of these? They're the only targets I ever use anyway.

I see no issue with it, except that I don't always use these targets. The first match I ran, I ran with varmint targets. I'll try to keep these as the standards (or at least alternates) though.

Just limit yourself to the first two for the match and we should be good.
