Ammo purchase -- Wideners...any opinions?

Postby 3Fingas » Mon Feb 13, 2012 3:55 pm

I checked with ammoengine. It lists Wideners as the cheapest source for 7.62x39 ammo. I have never purchased ammo from them. A search of this site shows many posts mentioning Wideners as a source of ammo. Most don't offer an opinion about the site as a reseller/retailer. Some do offer an opinion -- a few positive and a couple negative. Before I order, I was hoping to get a few more recent opinions about it. Thanks.

I have not used it but you might get some results looking at (your eyes may start burning) www.ar15.com under their ammo thread. People on that site seem to use Wideners a lot. There seems to be a lot of positive feedback there.

always check shipping and factor that into your purchase. i looked at so many places but shipping always killed a lot of the good prices. found Copes distrubiting to be the best over all deal, with only 9.95 shipping on anysize order i stocked up on a couple different calibers, to really make it worth it.

oh and theres a ammo thread where wideners is mentioned

Widenrs and Aim Surplus are my two go to places for most of my ammunition buying. I'm very pleased with them.

I've bought a few cases of ammo from them. I like the Golden Tiger for 7.62x39, if they have it in stock. Really good stuff.

Thanks for all the responses. I registered with their site but their estimated shipping calculator wasn't working at the time. Shipping can make the difference as was stated earlier.

Anyhow, I am thinking about getting the KSAP ammo. It $3.90/20 or $189.00/1000. Russian lacquer coated FMJ. Seems like a good deal, but still the shipping calculator does not work. I called around mid-day today and got a recording saying that the store was closed. Go figure. I guess I will try them again tomorrow.

I use them for my 5.45x39 ammo. They have the best price on the Wolf military grade ammo, which is what I use in my 5.45 AR. My saiga will eat anything, but the Tula ammo craps up the AR. I buy more from them every few months with no drama.

I live in TN and buy a lot from them. They are the best thing around here. They are always the best on price and service. I bought 6 guns from them in the past 4 months and all were in better than expected shape( nice thing was since I'm here I got to look first ) but they great to deal with. can't say enough good things about them.

Had good experiences with them.

I lived within ten minutes from them from 1999-2006, and the only ammo I can remember buying from any other company was some discounted plinking .22LRs from either K-Mart or Walmart, don't remember which. Widener's hires good, knowledgeable folks, and while they often don't have time to chit-chat much, if you're torn between 2--3 different brands of ammo in a specific caliber, just ask whoever answers the phone. Every one of them I've met is a gun nut.
