Pistol Training Day with Don of Milcopp in SC Jan. 27th

Post by Gingerbread Man » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:40 pm

I'm pleased to announce another training day with Don of Milcopp in Columbia, SC.
The course will be a pistol course. This will focus on the fundamentals and accuracy. If you are an advanced student of the pistol, you will improve. If you are a novice, you will be challenged. The course will encompass basic to advanced pistol craft. The course will have movement, how to use cover/concealment and barricades. There will be stress and challenges.
The range is Mid Carolina Rifle Club. The bay is 65m deep and approx 50m wide. We also have 9 pistol bays that have doors, tables, chairs and cars. We will be getting into basic clearing.
This course will take place the last week of January, a specific date will be set once we have a good number of people enrolling. Here's the deal, if there are more than 3 students we need to do this on a weekday. I can have up to 10 guest on a week day. If more are interested, I will make accommodations.
Everyone from the last course raved about how great it was, how much they improved and how well Milcopp instructs.

Course: Pistol
Date: Friday the 27th of January, 2012.
Location: Mid Carolina Rifle Club
Time: 830 am until one hour past sunset (Read we may get into low light) one day, 8 hrs.
Pre-reqs: None, the class and your training will be tailored to your skill set/comfort level.
Cost: $200
Required gear: Gloves, hat, jacket, good shoes or boots, eye pro, ear pro, a reliable pistol, 3 mag (5 is preferable), quality high lumen flash light, a quality holster appropriate to your pistol, mag holsters, water, a lunch, snacks and 600 rds of ammo.

Please reply to this thread for interest and enrollment.
FYI, I receive no compensation for organizing this course. In fact, I pay to have a range membership to hold these courses.

Participants:

Pistol Training Day with Don of Milcopp in SC

Consider me a maybe. I'd love to come but it's up to my work schedule and the day. A weekday would work better.

I'll be in Georgia, I'll have the weekend off.
I do not know if that particular weekend I will be able to go 300miles off post.

If it's on a Friday, possibly Monday, count me in. I could really use it right now, my pistol skills have gotten sloppy.

Okay, if one more person commits I'll have to set a date for a weekday. How is the 27th of January?

Personally for me, a day during the week is far better than a weekend. Any random Tuesday fits my schedule best.

Alright, I'm going to update the OP to reflect the date of the 27th of January.

Make plans now. Start getting ammo/gear now.

Pistol Training Day with Don of Milcopp in SC

Post by Equuleus » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:20 pm

Ok. Count me in. I'm 90% sure I can make it.

Are there any other requirements? I was planning on using my belt mounted Raven holster and my P30 as I CCW with that most of the time. I was taking this as more of an every day kinda class and less of a tactical class but correct me if I'm wrong.

No, there are no other requirements. It is more of an everyday kind of class than a tactical class. I would strongly recommend running the course with your daily carry as opposed to a 'tactical' rig. However, if you want to run a tactical rig, you still will not be disappointed. Doc66 is the instructor and he is really focused on skills over gear. What ever your running, you will be better with it.

Balls, I really want to go. Consider me a maybe, I'll know for sure right after the first of the year. Would anyone down there that is going be willing to let me ship 1000 rounds of 40 S&W to them so I can avoid that part of the hassle at the airport? All remaining unfired go to the receiver (it won't be fancy stuff though haha). That is unless I find my sig p226 combat before then, and then it would be 9mm...

I'll post as soon as I can either way.

You can send the ammo to me, I'm going to setting up the course so a little extra stuff isn't a big hassle.

Alright, I think I'll go minimalist and run this course with my SIG P220, Blade-Tech Nano IWB holster, and a couple of magazine pouches.

Doing this with one eight round and three ten round magazines is-agonna be a bitch. Off I go to find someone with SIG P220 10-rounders in stock.

Here's a list of equipment recommend by MilCopp from the website. You can bring extra pistols, bring more mags (recommended), more ammo.... Also, pack a lunch and lots of hydration. We normally supply this, but due to location and distance we travel, we probably won't be supplying food, but we will have water and such there.

Personal equipment
Suitable tactical clothing (loose fitting/comfortable, rugged: cargo pants/polo, etc)
Boots
Individual protective equipment
Head cover (ball cap)
Wrap around eye protection (goggles or shooting glasses)
Gloves (leather preferred or shooting gloves)
Hearing protection (electronic style highly recommended)
Canteen and carrier, camelback or similar container
Rain gear

Weapons and related equipment
Sidearm
Belt and strong side holster
3 magazines (minimum)
Magazine carrier
Weapon cleaning gear

Ammunition
500 rounds reliable practice ammunition
3 magazines of sidearm defensive ammunition

Tactical equipment
Flashlight

Bring the flashlight! We will go over various holds on the light and since we are going to do some low light, it will be needed. Flashlights can be anything from Surefire to Maglite. If you have a light that attaches to the rail, bring that as well, and holsters to fit if you have one.

Ok I'm starting to get ducks in order so I can pull the trigger as soon as I get the go ahead:

1. What's the timeline for the day? (mainly just want to know if I should fly in the night before)
2. Where can I find info on location etc to plan a hotel close by please? Or just a recommendation for a Days Inn type near there?
3. RG thanks for volunteering for ammo hauling for me, I'll pm you for details if I'm a go
4. I will be the noob, but unlike on the forums I do know when to shut my mouth and open my ears when it's time for business  I'm a blank slate and will be glad for any pointers from anyone!

I've got the go ahead from the boss, just need to make sure I've got my ass covered for the weekend; I should know soon. Giggity

I would say (tentatively) be at the range about eight, that way we can get everyone squared away with gear and safety checks on the firearms for a nine o'clock start. This will need to be confirmed with RG, but I believe that is what we started at the last class.

If you find a place on the south side of Columbia, you should be pretty close to the range from what I remember.

Although I personally didn't have a problem (RG says I was lucky) my understanding is you should follow the posted speed limit as the local constabulary is pretty serious about that stuff.
