Most Futuristic Guns

Post by Trent » Thu Oct 27, 2011 5:16 pm

Since the 1980s, there has been quite an explosion in unusual and exotic gun designs. A few look to have been designed more for use against Replicants, Xenomorphs, and Cylons than anything in the present. So what guns look most to you like they belong in science fiction?

To me, the Chiappa Rhino revolvers. The design pretty much screams Blade Runner.

I've shot that Kel Tec KSG. An armorer I work with in the movies has one. Pretty cool, holds 14 shells and fun to shoot.

Keltec shotgun is disqualified from futuristic on the basis of the model being dressed in gingham like Dorothy on Wizard of Oz.
Although a farm girl with 14 rounds of buckshot would really mess up a flying monkey....

Hmmm. Can't seem to get the image linked to the comment properly.

I like the FNH PS-90. Compact, rugged, small caliber sufficient for busting zed melons without taking up too much space, and high capacity magazine that doesn't dangle below the gun.

Another Steyr - the IWS 2000 (fires insane ammo):

HK G11 (recoiless burst fire and caseless ammunition):

And, because I don't want to bump that awful thread - the KBP PP2000 has a slightly reverse z-grip on it:

Actually, I'm of the opinion that the 1990's marked the near end of exotic firearm development and the spark of real innovation in that industry.

Kel-tec and a few others have been the only real pioneers left developing new ground in the last 2 decades.
The vast majority of firearm manufacturers tend to develop improvements upon existing and proven systems rather than innovate from scratch.

When I look at what was experimented upon in the past during in the mid 20th century (1950-1989) I get wistful.
When I look at the end of the 20th century (1990-1999) I get depressed.
When I look to as-yet-unwritten and potential changes that can be innovated in the 21st century (2001-20??), I become hopeful.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Beretta CX4 Storm yet. That thing is a freakin space gun. Hell, they used them on the new Battlestar Galactica.
