Shamrock Sentinel Corp: Anyone Had Dealings?

Postby TheLastRifleMan » Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:11 pm

Hey all,

A friend of mine from work is thinking about buying an AR from this company. I have seen the work the guy does and it looks top notch, and have talked to him at length, but has anyone here ever shot or owned any AR's from them? Just trying to save a friend if indeed this company's stuff may not be up to par.

Thanks for posting this thread!

I'm the guy looking to buy the AR.

Any members here heard of SHamrock Sentinal? There a small company, located in the Brighton/Howell area here in Michigan.

They build guns and they only sell them at local gun shops, and gun shows.

As he said, TheLastRifleMan and I have physically checked them out. They appear to be very well made. The owners are the gunsmiths and they definately know thier stuff, and they are nice guys.

So has anyone else had any dealings with them?

I have one of their AR -15, great looking zombie gun... They can build any AR platform you want. I bought a 16" rock river with a scope package. Under a $1000.00 the rifle, scope, bipod, forearm grip, ammo, gun case and USMC rifle manual. They been building ARs for the last 10 years. Also they are shooters, the owner and son compete in service rifle competitions. They both are distinguished rifleman and made the presidents hundred many times...

Hy son and I just bought 2 Rock Rivers with bypod,scope,4 rail,Pmag,20 rounds, bag, and manual for under 1000.00 at the Novi show yesterday the lower says Rock River but I don't see any marking on the upper so I have a call into them to see if it's a complete Rock River all the accessories are UTG now being TOTALLY new to AR's I don't know if UTG is a good brand now my son on the other hand said it had everything he wanted and it was a good deal so I hope so here is a pic of it

Thanks for the good reports. CBLS6 said he was going to pick his rifle up this weekend directly from Shamrock. I will be sure to let you folks know how it turns out.

My hands are still thawing out from a range trip today. My pistols were sucking the heat right from my hands in the 28 F weather.

Do they do anything other than slap together parts kits? $1000 for a frankengun with RR lower and $100 worth of UTG accessories isn't really a good deal. If they're using reputable parts it might be OK, but I can't see it being better that building your own.

Personally, I'd tend to steer clear of buying anything from anyone who makes a living "building ARs" by putting parts on a Rock River lower.

I did see the rifle today. It looked very well done, everything tight and seemingly functional. This rifle has an ambidextrous upper set up, forgoing the traditional charging handle and forward assist arrangement.

CBLS6, who purchased the rifle, neither has to time, tools or inclination to build one of his own. And being a left eyed dominant shooter and having to shoot left handed, I do believe this was a pretty good way to go fro the price. He and I discussed the in and outs of this purchase at length during many lunches and breaks at our work place over the past few months and it seemed the best option.

A trip to the range will tell the tale if the right decision was made, hopefully in a week or two when the weather clears. He has asked my help in sighting it in and some other basics, since this is his first rifle purchase of this type.

The whole set up is a good deal... If you go on-line to rock river to build your own or buy a pre- built gun it would cost you $1050.00+tax& shipping, and the cost of a FFL transfer. And that is with no accessories, there package comes with scope, riser, bi-pod,ammo,USMC manual p-mag magazine and rifle case for $995.00. It's compared to the rock river CAR- A-4, just that they use UTG stock, handrail, gas block, riser. There's Nonthing wrong with UTG parts either, UTG are local too. They have a new factory in livoina,mi. UTG will stand by any of there product too. Shamrock has a good relationship with them, so if there's any issues they will solve the problem quickly.

That's good to know I tried to look up UTG but can't find a website of there own just dealers that sell there product nice to know that it's all pretty much locally built RR is in Illinois and accessories are here and it was built by a local gunsmith so its a win win win situation lol

I have been looking at buying this AR from Shamrock Sentinel for almost 2 years. I have been to multiple gun shows all over Michigan, talking to them, their past customers, and the customers I saw buying guns from them.

I never once met anyone, at any of the shows that was buying one "cold". Everyone I met that was buying one, was buying one because of positive word of mouth, and/or hands on experiance with one of Shamrocks AR's.

The reason that this company caught my interest is that they do not just slap together part. All the internals are machined to match. I could have bought an AR from Gander, or any other local gun shop. Then bought an optic, then a rail set up, then a foregrip, and so on.

They offered a COMPLETE package. The rifle, a scope, the rails, my choice of a foregrip, or bipod, a soft case, 30 rounds and a Magpul magazine.

SOme may scoff at the brand name of the extras on the gun becasue they are UTG. I personally have no problem with them. The parts are solid, well built and in no way do they look or feel "cheap".

I'm satified with my gun thus far. My first trip to the range will obviously tell me muchmore. But after disassembling and inspecting it throughly, it's a great gun, from a workmanship standpoint.

I work with several gun owners, one who is a retired Army recruiter that worked primarily with soldiers that were already in the Army, and recruiting them for Ranger school, and other S.O. branches of the Army. He checked it out, gave it an extensive once over and said he feels it is a very solid weapon, and that I should be very satified with my purchase, as long as it functions well.

Once I've fired it, I will be able to update my review more.

As I said, I am happy thus far. I shoot lefty, so, I do need to change one thing. The grip. It's a righty.

I chose the foregrip over the bipod, just personal preference.
