Nice looking rifle.
.308 semiautomatic rifles are great. Wish I could get one in full auto without having to pay an arm and a leg.

It was just an overwelded spot, no function problem, and you can't see it with the forearm on.

Thanks, I found a slim handguard with a heat shield for under $30 (including shipping)if it does not work well, I'm going with the wider hand guard

Negative. I have a PTR-91P 308 semi auto pistol. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I was camping.

Fun.

It is also a very nice CQB heavy gun. It will penetrate Kevlar even with a short barrel. The bad guys around here like to use BPV when doing armed burglaries. More power than a 7.62x39 out of a gun half its size. Plus EVERYONE on the range stops to look when I shoot her.

Is that the Choate folding stock?

I have the Century/FA91 clone; I currently have a fixed stock with a Cherokee Cheekpiece on it, for use with, of course, a scope with high-rise see-through rings. One day I will buy a better scope and perhaps low rings if they work with the scope I get. Or maybe a 7.62 ACOG.

Anyway, I have the fixed stock, and I'd like to get a folding stock and a spare recoil spring assy so I can just push the two pins to switch between stocks. I've been debating between the Choate and the Ace folders. You can get a cheek piece for the ACE, not sure if I need it, though.

How's that Choate work with the scope for you? Looks like you've got some padding wrapped around it?

It works great with the padding, but was manageable without it. It's my favorite rifle to shoot now, comfortable and naturally proper allignment

I went through 9 full 20 round mags (HK alum. types), all worked fine except for one which would not feed properly, but at $4 a pop I chucked it.
The weapon functioned better than I expected Image. The only failures to feed were from the bad mag and my own stupidity, the CETME does not work when loading from the lock up bolt position. I found it works better if you load a fresh mag and then fully rack the bolt.
Very pleased with the weapon, just getting use to the controls and it does need the wider forearm, that bad boy gets hot!!!

Hey, I browsed through some of your pictures and happened to notice you mounted the wide forgrip on your Cetme, Ive been trying to figure out what I would need to modify and how before I dump 80 bucks on a hand guard.
A pistol is only a tool to get you to a real gun.

FAL.

The FAL has better ergonomics, an adjustable gas regulator to keep working even when filthy. The FAL is not nearly as hard on the brass either (Cetme/G3/HK91 mangles your brass).

FAL was called the right arm of the free world for a reason. The only people who bought the Cetme or G3 were Spain and Germany and they honestly didn't have much of a choice. Just about everyone else who could buy the FAL did (except the US and they should have, cause the M14 sucked).

I had a G3, got rid of it at a loss. All I can say is check your headspace, a lot of Cetme and G3 rifles out there have ground bolts. Headspacing one of these properly involves replacing the rollers with different sized rollers. The monkeys at Century cheated on a bunch of these by grinding the bolt face instead which makes it look like it is properly headspaced, when it is not. I really like my L1A1 (inch version of the FAL). Mags cost more than the G3 mags, but it is a much better nicer rifle.

Germany's G1 rifle was a FAL, but they couldn't get liscensed to manufacture them, so they bought rights from Spain for the CETME.

US considered the M14 better as it was derived from the M1 Garand already in use, so there wasn't much new training needed.

And so, the FAL had 'competition.'

I like the G3/PTR family, and have 20+ mags(cheap!) but I would rather have a FAL.

I hate M14/M1A's though. If I got one as a gift, I'd ArmsList that thing as fast as I could take pictures!

I get atleast half-a-stalk whenever I shoot mine.......which may be a hindrance in the ZPAW.

The G1 to G3 story has a little interesting twist to it that is a bit more political than contractual in nature. The director of FN at the time had been severely wounded in WWII and basically told the German Bundeswehr senior officers at a presentation ceremony for the 100,00th G1 that in no uncertain terms would FN allow production of their rifle in Germany. Funny thing the Germans didn't get their license from CETME in Spain, rather they got it from NWM in Holland (the sole supplier outside of Holland) for free with the stipulation the Germans bought all of their 20mm ammo from NWM (NWM made millions upon millions on that deal). The German government subsequently selected H&K who at the time was more into sewing machines than firearms to be the sole producer. And the rest is history ;)
