If Ben Franklin and TJ had some 550 there is no telling how awesome America would be right now.
but Russian strippers are pretty cheap and easy to order on the internet. Just check gunbroker.com or m1surplus.com

i spent last weekend polishing my phoenix 22. the finish started to come off in places and I decided it would look better shiny anyway. It was a learning experience completely disassembling the pistol, and I also learned the finish that's on there isn't blue. blue removal solution appeared to work, but as it turned out later on it removed the finish by eating away the metal!
so due to there little screw up there's some pitting here and there that I wasn't able to totally polish the heck out of.

overall it came out well. I got some shine with steel wool, got more shine with polishing wheel, but as it turned out my dremel was the best tool for this. these are some crappy pictures, but in some of them you can kinda see just how polished some surfaces are!

end result? I can see my own reflection in the slide! holy crap !

the whole gun except for barrel and the springs/hammer/firing pin parts is made of pot metal, probably zinc. deforms easily, easily scratched, and as this photo shows, this is why people call them "junk guns"!
Image
this was before i took the finish off, which i mistook for bluing as it came off really quick in blue removal solution, when I was doing a full disassembly with absolutely no guide at all and I took this photo as a backup just in case I got lost putting it back together!
while the frame crack isn't a good thing, it doesn't feel like it'll lead to catastrophic failure any time soon so i'll shoot this gun until it does become an issue, send it to the folks at Phoenix Arms where they'll be like "holy crap what happened" to fix.

I was organizing some stuff yesterday and got to thinking about what my basic carry weapons (That I own) would be. I considered weight, maneuverability, and ammo compatibility.

Rifle/Carbine: Noveske N4 w/ 5 mags, maybe more considering weight and distance from resupply. (Now with sling and Aimpoint Comp M2 with Larue M68 mount)

Sidearm: Springfield Armory TRP Operator w/Surefire X300, 3 8 rd mags (I would probably pack a couple more depending)

BUG: Glock G30 with 2 mags (I now have a Surefire X200 weapon light for this, was considering my Springfield EMP9, but stuck with the .45ACP theme)

Blades: My trusty USMC K-Bar

Benchmade Pardue Bowie

Benchmade Griptillian Tanto

I would of course rotate different weapons out due to necessity and situation, but I figure this is a good starter kit.

Just repainted my bolt in flat black moly-resin after polishing the bolt and trigger. Also my "Dirty Bitch" single shot 12gauge.
I also cut down and threaded the barrel for my SWR Warlock 2 that I am waiting on.

^^^ like that shotty... Any way, here is my beginning an ammo stockpile.

From Left to right:

220 rounds of 230 grain JHP in 45 ACP.

660 rounds of 9mm JHP

550 rounds of 9mm ball (range ammo)

1120 rounds of "range ammo" in .223 (Dicks sporting goods had a sale last year and I stocked up, been working my way through it over the past 10 months).

660 rounds of 5.56 (500 in green tip and 160 in XM193)

I would get some better magazines, but it looks nice otherwise. (Those promags are literal garbage. I have 6 that I use as range fodder until the feedlips break (and they all do at some point) or the floorplate cracks from a 3' drop (which also happens with regularity), or Ninja-Elbow shatters the mag body by loading it (He's pretty strong).

Get some cheap surplus steel mags. They're nigh-indestructable.
