Im not actually saying DONT buy Taurus, because I've had too many good experiences with their product to say overall that it's a bad product... I've had three of their .357 Magnum revolvers, two PT92s, and a total of three of their .22 revolvers and one PT1911...

That's 9 guns in total, and this one is the only one I have had problems with.

I had this exact same revolver once, I bought it used, and traded it off and got as much in the trade as I paid for it, but then later realized when I was looking for a trail gun for hiking that this would have been perfect, and so started haunting the shops for another... the first one was perfect... this one sucks ass.

I have no idea what would make the rounds "Tumble" out of the barrel like this and thus throwing accuracy way off, but I am still kinda debating on if I want to send it back yet again, or just take the loss and have peace of mind with a Smith and Wesson revolver, or maybe a Ruger 22/45 autoloader.

A long bullet with too little twist and a short barrel will tumble. Try a smaller bullet.

I actually had this experience with three different brands/bullets...

Remmy Golden Sabers, CCI Minimags, and Remmy Thunderbolt... didnt think to check to see if bullet weights were the same however.

It's bullet length that matters, not mass, but obviously, larger bullets tend to be longer.

Try wadcutters. If those don't stabilize, I'd question the dimensions of the barrel.

Our last one was excellent. This functions wonderfully. It's only been to the range once, so I can't speak for accuracy yet. I'll have to try again and in a scientific fashion.

I've not had a problem with my 617, but I haven't had to send it back for service either. If it is keyholing at 5 frickin yards than it is junk. Send it back again or ditch it.

Ok, I discovered why the rounds were tumbling and making key holes instead of nice round holes... I tink Taurus fucked up my gun when I sent it back the first time.

Fuckers.

Where the barrel "screws in" to the frame, there was a "ledge"... I discovered it with a bore light when I couldnt drop the weighted end of my .22 bore snake through the barrel... What a piece of shitty repair work they did...

Fuckers.

SO, it's my guess that the rounds there getting "flight fucked" in the barrel, and not being allowed to begin the spiral motion down the barrel as the bullet should... and thus was being thrown off center upon exiting the barrel, and tumbling down range. It didnt do this BEFORE I sent it in for the last repair, so I can only presume it was fucked during the first repair.

Fuckers.

I stopped by the gun shop on my way home from the range and dropped it off to be sent back to Taurus AGAIN, with a NASTY note written in large block print on the original ticket that taurus sent back with the first repair.

Fuckers.

So I guess I'll see the pistol again sometime in mid-late June.

Fuckers.

I have owned this pistol now for almost 4 months, and its only been in my possession for what... 2 1/2 weeks? Maybe 3 weeks?

Fuckers.

Well, at least you are keeping a good attitude about the entire affair.

All kidding aside, that sounds like a very obnoxious affair. I hope that they can pull it together and fix your problem promptly.

I have no doubt that right now it would have been a very fine little .22 IF THEY JUST FITTED THE BARREL properly...

I think tomorrow I'll be giving "Carol" from Taurus International a call and letting her know how fucking PISSED OFF I am at the moment.

The barrel was fitted properly when I first had the gun, so they fixed one problem, and created another in the process.

Totally fucked up, but maybe I'll end up with a decent pistol out of it in the end.

Probably a New Guy worked on it.

Revolvers are a BITCH to work on. That myth of "reliability" is only true when brand new, in good repair.

Swapping out a part on an auto takes a few minutes and maybe some stones or files.

Working on a revolver requires a machine shop.

Okay, off-hand, 5m group with a 2" snub 817 and cheap, PLASTIC CASED .38 Spl yields about 4" groups, dead center.

This is ammo so cheap is separates case from Al base about once every other cylinder.

Had one squib load, bullet stuck in forcing cone, cylinder locked. Disassembled, tapped it out, reassembled, no problem.

This one seems to be pretty good.

I lightened the springs to 3 lb single and 9 lbs double.

Taurus has a pretty bad rep in the Cowboy Action circles. As you know, CAS shooters are pretty hard on their guns. Taurus's "Gaucho" (peacemaker clone) and their "Thunderbolt" (lightning rifle clone) both get lots of bad comments from cowboy shooters. Thier selling point is the low price. Many shooters who fall for that, find the guns going back to Taurus for repairs after the first few hundred rounds (FYI: Many CAS shooters can shoot 500 to 1000 rounds per month in their revolvers).

They had so many problems with people sending the Thunderbolt in for repairs, they have stopped honoring the warranty. They have also recently announced they are getting out of the cowboy replica market all together.

WARNING: If you see Taurus Gauchos or Taurus Thunderbolts with "clearance" prices, AVOID them at all costs. I know CDNN had several models for sale in the January catalog in the $200 to $300 range. If you are temped, save a little more money and buy a Ruger or Uberti. You'll be happier.

I've put 600 rounds through so far.

My only complaint, before grouping it properly, was that the machine work was TOO good. The corners on the crane were sharper than hell.

I had to go over every edge with a jeweler's file.

I dont think I can say FUCK TAURUS on a forum loud enough right now to truly express how I am feeling at this moment in time. They are not going to like the nasty-gram I tucked into the box before it shipped out.

By the time I get this gun back I will have owned it for something like 6 months but have actually had posession of it for what... 2 weeks?

They are rapidly losing a fan in me... their prices are hard to beat for blaster type guns, but this situation is not impressing me.

And honestly its NOT that it needed to go back for repair... hell, out of all the guns I buy I was bound to run into a lemon sooner or later... its how Taurus has handled this lemon issue that has pissed me off.

The fact that I sent it ONCE and the fuckers cannot fix it without creating yet another problem for me ... fuckers.

And the worst part of it is the fact that most of the other major gun makers will have a gun back to you in a couple weeks... with taurus its fucking 3 months... unacceptable.

And the pisser is, the fact that I KNOW they make decent firearms... as I say I've got several of them.

And now that I'm planning on shooting and carrying a snubbie again (hell, I'm tempted yet again to go heavy on the revolver side of things again), I was planning on using this wheelie as an understudy to my larger (and more expensive to shoot) wheel guns.

Bobby Sixkiller, what have you heard about the Puma series of lever-action carbines? If I remember correctly they're made by Rossi, which is owned by Taurus. I've read a few favorable reviews, but I'm still not sure.

Sorry about the hijack.

BTW, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this shit. Nothing pisses me off more than shitty customer service. Hopefully you can talk to someone who isn't a total chucklehead.

The only thing I have herd is on the 454 casull clone of the winchester 94 in 45 LC. They are pushing a high powered round through a brass frame that was not capable of handling the pressures and it is causing the frame to stretch. At least that is the scuttlebutt that I have herd besides that one rifle with that one round I have herd no complaints.
