Actually got out to shoot after posting that this morning and while cleaning my 19 I noticed how black my barrel is still too. Must have misrembered from shooting sigs all winter, those barrels' finish wear easily. Weird.

Also shot my psa 10.5 chf since I finally got all the nexessary parts. Heavy as shit and ran 300 reds without issue. Yay psa remembered to drill a hole for the gas  Already chipped the finish on the bolt from my nickel ares bolt I grabbed at $99. Meh. Not really worried about it. Cheap as hell.

Actually went with a magpul 2 to 1 pt sling since the ladies at ares are too busy slap fighting to remember how to handle their business. Feels like it will work out just fine.

PA aimpoint replica worked fine too for range fun. Dialed it right in and had fun punching holes.

The finish on Sigs suck, IMO. My 229R was wearing on the barrel so badly I just took some Flitz and polished it til it was stainless. Other than that they're phenomenal guns.

Would you mind posting a pic of the chip on the Ares bolt? I got an AIM NiB BCG that's holding up well so far in an 8.5" pistol gas..fingers crossed. Got around 500 I think on that bolt.

Also really wanting to try their Nitride bolt. The pistol barrel is from PSA and Nitrided and so far I'm digging it. Definitely a legit alternative to chrome lining.

needed three hands, but tried to point it out with the cotter pin. Basically a flake of the nickle came off. Sorry if these photos are huge, Iphone

And the whole thing as it sits right now. Mostly just a fun gun, so not dropping any more cash into it other than ammo for now.

Question: Would an XDM be a fair trade for an M&P45c? Someone offered me that deal and I'm considering it. As much as I love .45, it's just a little too spendy for me. Plus I absolutely love the trigger on the XD's as opposed to Smith's. Just a personal thing I guess.

If you like the XDM better than the S&W, I'd say go for it.

Anyone here ever carry an XDM 4.5? I'm seriously considering a trade for my M&P.

[wishfulthinking] I'd give my left nut to be able to convert from the 4.5 to 3.8 barrel on the XD but nooooo :( [/wishfulthinking]

It's a honkin' big gun to carry IMO. My issue was more the size of the grip being impossible to conceal, but maybe you'll have better luck.

Oh, and I couldn't shoot mine for shit. M&P fit my hand better.

As always, YMMV.

What's Y'all opinion on the SAR B6P 9mm full size? Good for a woods gun for 300?

That's one of those Turkish CZ-75 clones, right ?

ETA: On the subject of woods guns, I kind of like this one.

Yes, I know it's a SAA clone and not exactly suited for the woods, but I like it. Besides, I live in Texas, it's almost a requirement to own a SAA to live here.

Isn't Chiappa or Pietta or somebody making a Python clone?

I'm actually not sure about that, Doc.

This is the literally the first I'm hearing of this.

ETA: It seems Pietta is the company making the Python clone. I kind of wonder what the ETA on the guns will be.

I have an XDM 40 4.5 I carry on a regular basis and it works beautifully for me.
Regulators mount up.

Well, YouTube was a bust for info on the Pietta Python clone.

All I found was a bunch of SHOT show stuff about their SAA clones, which have reignited my wanting of an engraved model to replace the original Colt SAA my mother had when I was a kid.

At some point in the future, I'm considering another AK purchase and have narrowed down the field to just two entries now.

First up, the DDI MOE AK from AIM Surplus.
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... groupid=11

And finally the Century RAS47 Magpul edition from J&G Sales.
http://www.jgsales.com/cai-ras47-ak-sty ... 85283.html

The price difference isn't too much (maybe ten bucks or so between the two) and they both have the parts on them that I was planning on installing anyway, so it's simply a matter of which gun I prefer the most.

DDI has been getting great reviews and so has the RAS47 (there's a few folks complaining about the RAS47, but that's just about the furniture fit on the standard RAS47).

Of the two choices, which one would y'all pick ?

ETA: The only thing I don't like about the RAS47 is the cut outs on the bolt carrier. What the heck was Century thinking when they did that ?

Although, it wouldn't be that hard to have another bolt carrier without the cut outs fitted to the rifle. At least I don't think it would.

I know just about nothing about AK47's, so I am not much help.

Get both?

Sadly, both isn't an option right now.

I'm kind of leaning more towards the RAS 47 since it's got the Magpul Zhukov stocks I was planning on installing on whatever rifle I got already on it.

Though, the DDI rifle does look like it's a better gun.

It's been a long time in the making..............15 months to be exact. But my baby is finally done and home with me. 100 yard IPSC steel targets are almost to easy for the .38 Super :D

I'm undecided if the rosewood grips will remain or swap out for something different.

Yep yep, not huge on 1911s (they are purty though), but that gun is a beaut.

That's a good looking heater there, Maverick.

But I gotta ask, why .38 Super?

I went with Simmonich Gunner grips (now made by VZ) for one of my 1911's after I saw a bunch of shooters with them at the 2007 IDPA nationals. I was an SO (referee, the guy who wrote the scores down on the clipboard actually). So I saw about 250 to maybe 300 shooters come through my stage over the span of about 3 days. I'd say about 40% of them were shooting some form of 1911.

My STI Trojan came with smooth sided rosewood grips too.

The Simmonich gunner grips (as made by VZ) came with some really sharp points, and they actually shipped a piece of sandpaper with them to knock their sharpness down ( <Ahhnnoldd voice> if you have soft girley hands </voice>)

chills1994 wrote:That's a good looking heater there, Maverick.

Several reasons. One being that the M1911 was actually designed for the .38 acp cartridge and it just about ended up being the choice for the M1911 sidearm. If they hadn't of changed their minds last minute and gone with .45 acp the .45 would probably be non-existent or rare and 9mm would be considered today's .380. So it's got some back ground and nostalgia.

I also like uncommon and rare things. I must have been a hipster in a previous life or something.

Plus it sounds so cool when someone asks you what it is to say.....thirty-eight super.

Not to mention it's fast, flat, and accurate.

ETA: The .38 was designed for the 1911, not the other way around as implied above.

Speaking of .38 Super, does anyone make a conversion kit for that caliber for Glocks or would it not work ?
