That sounds like a good price, zobmiedown.

I'll probably check the local Academy stores here and see if they have any. That or I'll see if my FFL dealer can get me one.

I have no idea why the CZ P-09 mags are so high.

<shrugs shoulders>

I have a CZ-75, but I think I only have the original two that came with it.

I haven't priced them out anywhere else. At least not yet.

This is just a guess though on the pricing...at least with my Beretta 92/96 magazines, since the M9 is the military issued sidearm, and there are a lot of full size civilian 92FS's out there, there is a larger pool of used magazines out there. So the new prices have to be lower.

On the other hand, I doubt the P-09 was issued as any country's sidearm or it is so new it hasn't been issued yet, so the pool of used or surplus magazines aren't there. Hence, the higher prices for the mags.

Granted, it is just a carefully machined and formed sheet metal tube with a spring, a follower, and a baseplate, but $50 is way steep for a pistol mag, in my opinion.

If you ever watch USPSA competitions, the limited and open division competitors with their SVI/STI 2011's might be wearing 4 to 5 mags on their belts. That's about $800 in mags...just mags by themselves:

Image

I have an STI 2011 open gun in 9mm Major that came with one working mag. IIRC, I bought 4 or 5 tubes, then springs, followers, and Dawson basepads. It turns out that SVI changed their mag tube design, so I either have to do some major tuning on the mags or dremel'ing inside the gun to get them to work.

I might just buy one of these instead to see if it works:

But it is $145

Cha ching! :(

Has any one seen any 'real world' post election prices for Beretta 92 or Taurus PT92? All I've seen on AmmoSeek are nothing to write home about.

I am all set for Beretta 92/96FS's, so I haven't really been keeping an eye out for prices....or better yet used prices.

I would try maybe AIM Surplus or CDNN in case there are any police trade in 92's or 96's .

Locally, I have seen some real beaters for used 92's. I would just throw out $400 to start the haggling process if it was in good condition. For a 92 that looks like a beater but is mechanically sound, I'd say $250 to $300.

Me? Personally? The only thing that would catch my eye would be the newer M9A3 with the curved backstrap grips, rail, threaded barrel, a G model like decocker only levers.

Or a 92G-SD.

Or a 92 Compact M Type L, preferably in Inox.

Lowest I found for a new 92 was around 700 bucks.

On AmmoSeek.com:

I've seen the American made ones going for as low as $550, and Italian for as low as $650. But these were pre-election prices.

As of right now, I'm seeing new ones for $550 for American and Italian. So one came down and the other stayed the same, go figure.

You can always check out the Beretta forums classified section for used Berettas.

I might have to check that site more often. I did a little searching on J&G Sales, Buds and AIM Surplus and they all had them for close to of just above 700.

J&G wins on overall best price. They have some NATO Mil-Surp for $330, G-VG grade.

Dumb Question:

I bought some TulAmmo steel *case* ammo a little while back in both 9mm and .380 before I heard how bad steel ammo was on barrels. I've never used it.

But I was doing an inventory today and noticed that the .380 was steel in color in case as well as round.

But the 9mm appears to have a brass round and steel case.

Is steel case the same thing as steel core?

Nope, not the same thing. The steel colored bullet is probably just a coating like zinc or something.

Steel core=core of bullet is steel wrapped in copper/etc.

Shot a XDs at the range today - am evaluating some options for carry and single stack 9mms are on the list. Liked it shooting but was not getting consistent slide lock on last round - bit of searching on the web reveals could have been my hand position/thumb on the slide release. Probably moves it into the no category.

I want to try a PPS/Shield/G43 as well, any other recommendations ?

I have about 500 rounds through my Shield without issue. It has never malfed. Shoots a 6" 22 round group at 15 yards without issue. I could probably do better if I shot it more or had all eight round magazines instead of one eight and two sevens.

You can often find the Shield $100 cheaper (around $325) than the Glock 43, holds more rounds to, actually important with a small gun.

I'm pretty happy that there hasn't been very much panic buying this time around. I bought a lot of magazines a year ago, and had a plan along the lines of "if magazine prices hit $X sell X number of magazines" but I'd rather just keep them and not have everyone go crazy.

This article is no joke. I felt like it could have easily been written about me. I woke up on Wednesday and wondered what I was going to do with the rest of my life. If it were not for the threat of zombies I might have completely lost all hope. I"m slowly recovering. I"ll find some way to use my Panic Bullets and MRE cheese.

Seriously, I was stunned and aimless in my preparing for a few days. I found my feet, but I seriously feel I lost my compass for the next 1.5 years.

Actually, J&G has 92S. (Second gen. 92, different mag catch, collectible) Probably going to get one if Beretta can help me find some parts for them.

That is pretty cheap. Gun prices were low before the election. Looks like they will continue to plunge.
