Seconded for PSA. If you can stash that cash and wait, they have killer sales every few months. Like $400 uppers for $189 for a weekend awesome.

I found an upper I like at CDNN Sports here in Texas for 280 bucks and might go with that one.

I'll probably end up slowly accumulating the parts bit by bit and build it one I have all the pieces. Gives me time to check the sales as well.

This won't be my main rifle by any means (got my AK for that) and will likely just end up being one of those "I knew I could do it" type of builds.

$800 for what sounds like some nice features. I like looking at 308 bolt guns for some reason... adjustable trigger, nice barrel and action all sound good on paper.

I picked up S&W M&P 9c this week. Again. Had one a while ago, but now I'm back.

As for 308 bolters, I plan to reacquire a Howa 1500 with a bull barrel. Again, had one but had to sell it. Excellent and affordable platform.

I second the 308 HOWA. I absolutely love mine especially with the game king scope. Plus you can get the detachable magazine kit for it for either 5 or 10 round mags depending on any local restrictions you may have. Plus big 5 carries the additional magazines at least here in m town.

Chimp I have used both he PSA lower parts kits as well as the CMMG. Both work very well. The CMMG does come in color coded packages for each area of the lower which made my first build easier if that helps at all. I can usually get eh CMMG LPK here locally from one of the shops in town which ends up being cheaper than PSA by the time you add in shipping. YMMV.

Well, I have my AR lower in hand.

I now own an Anderson multi-cal lower. Now just to get an LPK, upper, and some other stuff and I'll have a full rifle at some point.

I've actually had decent luck with CTD, but I understand where you're coming from in saying they can hug a nut. A lot of folks really dislike the company after the price gouging they did over the years.

Speaking of lower parts kits, I found a couple sets at Aim Surplus today along with a nice upper.

I'll post a link to the upper Thursday since I'll be away from my computer tomorrow.

I paid about 75 bucks for mine, which is about what I'd have paid if I would have ordered one and paid FFL fees along with shipping.

Not an ideal price, but it saved me a 30 dollar FFL charge and about 20 in shipping charges.

Yeah, I saw those. I was thinking of just buying one for the GF since she likes mine so much, even if mine is a 3rd Gen. Bought a 5906 last week though, so I need to be acreful with my money(I remember at the start of the year I said I was only going to get a Tavor and .45 semiauto...and here I am having bought a 5906 and a M48 this year but no Tavor or .45 Semiauto).

Anyway, I saw this notification logging into Amazon just now. As a reminder, if you use Amazon Smile you can default for them to donate a small percentage to the Second Amendment Foundation. $11,854 seems low, I don't think too many people are aware of this.

Here's another upper I found while browsing Aim Surplus' site. It's about 20 bucks more than the CDNN upper, but it's got free shipping and I don't have to pay the state sales tax like I'd have to with CDNN.

By the way, anyone heard of Radical Firearms ? There's so damn many companies offering AR parts these days that I have no idea if most of them are GTG or utter crap or not.

Improper assembly [using red loctite to attach the flashhider] and improperly torqued barrel nut.

Barrel extension pin sheared off, which should never happen under normal conditions. RFA wanted customer to pay for shipping and repairs.

Around the same time there was a similar lack of CS with a guy that had a broken bolt, but I can't find the post. Reddit's archive searching system sucks. I did find this ARFcom thread from March:

I wouldn't fuck with their shit. Their budget house-brand rails and stuff are, I would wager money, the same Chinese import shit that a lot of the other low-enderts are using, and there's been QC issues indicating a basic fuckery in regards to how to properly build an AR. Just searching the company's name on Reddit brought up several problem threads on the first page. It's not a gamble I'd be willing to make.

I emailed Radical Firearms and one of their reps got back to me about the whole Seekins thing and I was told that they used to outsource work to Seekins, but stopped once they were able to begin manufacturing stuff in house.

I'm still in the planning stages of my AR build, so I'm probably going to either hit up PSA for cheap uppers or take a shot with Radical and hope I don't end up with a lemon. Hopefully, Radical Firearms has got their shit together now.

I do appreciate the heads up on the potential bugs, by the way.

After careful consideration and reading through the links Doc posted, I have decided not to get the Radical Firearms upper.

I'm back to browsing PSA and hoping for a good sale.

ETA: PSA has the upper I want and at a damn good price. It doesn't come with the BCG or charging handle, but that's ok since I planned on buying those separately anyway.
