I wear gloves everywhere I go. No matter what the weather is, I have a pair designed as cut resistant barriers on my paws. So one day I walk into the pub, buy my pint and proceed to sit down and relax in serenity. This is where a guy nearby who I have no interest in asks why I am wearing these black gloves and insists that they are 'rapist wear'. Now, as you probably know of Chinese whispers and all that it entails, reckless talk such as that man used puts myself at a disadvantage when i chose to overcome an outstanding problem. The gossip machine here is trying to do much the same thing as dick head in the pub tried, only with the photographer vests instead.

Of course I could say quite a bit about the attire choice of the opinionated one I dealt with, and why he is neively equipped with nothing more than a bolshy attitude & tw@tter phone.

I don't think the issues with photographer/fishing vests are quite as derogatory as "rapist gloves." There's not so much negative stereotype concerning lawful concealed carry in the US - at least not in this discussion, which is more or less between people who carry. the issue is mainly one of 1) whether they are effective concealment, or obvious outside of particular context, and 2) do they look good/attractive/appropriate in every scenario. Funny you should bring that up that this generation is the one that wears mens name on their underwear. WRT vests, and "shoot me first" vests in particular, they smack of ccw to me, and to most carriers and police, but I don't think it matters a whole lot that it does. If you're carrying legally and just want to 'nominally' conceal, that's your business as long as you don't delude yourself into thinking that you're being stealthy or under the radar. Not sure, yet, how the non-carrying general public, or the unlawful carrier/bad guy set views them.
Armed and weird isn't the same as armed and dangerous.
