Erector Set as a Toy/Prep Option...old is new again

Postby Jamie » Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:11 am

I was out doing some shopping the other day, and saw a small sized box erector set toy...I used to play with my father's set when I was a kid, but it must not have made the cut in one of the purges of my childhood...

Anyway, I bought it, and brought it home for my son...he loves lego, and this really got him interested, especially when he found out that the set included tools that were needed to assemble the front end loader...

Having him gain a familiarity with some tools in a fun way that doesn't seem like work is great...being able to follow complex and multi-step directions will put him one up on his father, and most people on the planet (based on my experience)...he's already excited to take the finished product apart and reconfigure it...besides the fun, it is great for an 8 year old's fine motor coordination...

I'm thinking of getting a couple more sets of these for him...Amazon.com has them cheaper than my local store (with free shipping)...

It occurred to me that this might be an example of prepping my family, and thought I'd share it...

haha, I remember having one of those as a little kid. of course, i never had the patience to actually bolt everything together, but they are really fun sets and you can do things legos could never dream of doing.

Very similar to meccano over here, a bit more interesting than lego's techniks range (IMO).
