Ah. I just found this thread. Most unsettling.

So, the PAW fantasy thing....we've all had a little bit of it. If you like the PAW, there's one in Haiti. No need to wait. You can go there right now.

Now to the more unsettling thing: You've invoked the Michigan Militia's name as your "army" that you will use to take over this island, including the vast majority it which you neither own nor have claim to.

We have at least one poster here on ZS that's actually in the Michigan Militia. I can't remember his name, but if someone else can, I think it would be a good idea to PM him about this thread so he can come in here and give an appropriate and quasi-official statement that (I'm going to bet) "clears up" some uncertainty.

Given that the Michigan Militia is so heavily monitored and scrutinized already, it would be nice to let someone actually from that organization know what's being said about them.

That's all I'll say about that. :|

Unlike the majority of guys on this forum, I was born in a generation where paying for porn is just stupid, the internet is full of free stuff. Therefor, I don't have that hidden box of magazines (not the ones you forgot to clean after visiting the range last weekend). So in short. Thank you mrcorey, you have made my PAW experience moderately more tolerable.

In all seriousness, what CAN you get without any kind of license? A bow? Crossbow? Airgun? Black powder? Single-shot rifles and shotguns?

Well bows are fine in all states, crossbows are banned in nearly all South Australia being the only one I know of you can get them. Airguns are illegal and all other firearms come under a number of different types of permits this includes paintball gear.

You know, despite all the nice things I've heard about Australia, I think I'm going to cross that off my list of places to ever move. Sure as hell would like to visit, though.

It's not too bad once you get your license you can get a number of different permits for things like hunting/culling with riles and shotguns. Historical permits can allow a number of different things too. Pistols are basically out unless your in a pistol club or the police.

If you ever do want to visit you should let some of us know!

Well, how hard is it to join a pistol club?

It's also not really hard to get a license - especially if you live out in the country. You apply, they do a police check, then it turns up.

You aren't allowed to carry it for the sole purpose of self defence, though. Which is the biggest difference.

If you're coming to visit, I'm sure Goose and I will be able to show you around.

you know what. im not gonna lie, im so discouaged about this site.

i took the time to do a re-post in a better topic, and they just went off on it. i seemed to have offended some of you, and for that im sorry. but i came up with an idea, and some ppl dismissed it and picked at it. wheres your brilliant idea, what make you an expert? this is all opinions.

and i just wanna say, that i have never had intentions of taking over mackinac island. i live 11 miles away, been there more times than i can count. i dont think any of you can make a judgement without going there. and i never said id steal anything.

i feel really discouraged about this site.

Dude. Read around... get the feel for the place. We are about practical preparations and many of the people ARE experts on survival (not me by a long shot). I started off much like you with a total jackass of a first post. I got defensive, I said unkind things. After a while I cooled off and checked out the other threads, read the rules, read the ZS philosophy, and learned. I have learned so much now that has helped me in my every day life. I am self-reliant; I know there is more to survival than guns; I have expanded my knowledge of survival through literature; and most importantly I have met some awesome people.

Seriously dude, if you have the balls to take the lickings and stick around... you will learn a lot. I don't know anything about you, but I think if you stop with the defensiveness and show a little humility you will learn a lot and understand why you got ridden so hard for your first posts. Give it a try. You said you were former military... does the military give up? Do they bitch out?

Didn't think so. Stick around... read around.... grow.

Dude, I gave you a perfect opportunity to shut down all these critics. Why not post some pics of all the food and water stores you have laid in to supply your army to keep them well fed and hydrated while they help you secure the island?

Seriously. Just go snap some pics of this stuff, post them and I expect most, if not all, of these folks will admit that you're on the right track. I know I would.

How is this thread even still surviving?

As far as being discouraged about ZS, don't be. I'd say my first 200 posts were all completely retarded nonsense. However, i learned by being viciously flamed. Now I'm only kind of retarded. :D Lurk a lot, post little.

I'm guessing that I'm the newest member on this site to respond to your questions. I lurk and learn. I myself am a veteran, and spent 8 years of my younger life in the military.

I lurk, and learn.

A lot of these folks have been through situations that resemble a PAW, a lot of them have prepared in ways you may not be able to imagine. I know folks that have enough food stocked for 3+ years for a family of 4. I have my shotgun, my rifle and pistol....and a few cases of MRE's for myself and daughter. I'm woefully unprepared for any 'real' problem in my neighborhood, let alone a drastic change in my city or state.....

Lurk, read and learn.

When I first came across this site, I thought it may be a joke that was pulled over my eyes about 'zombies'....it is definitely not. This is a site that is full of people that think the way you do, live the way you may...and have friends like yours.

I appreciate this place. You will too when you read through it a bit.
