.22 Coversion - Possible Danger

Had a conversation with a former AF CATM instructor today about some .22 conversions that are available for firing at our unit. He mentioned that he put a stop to their use because they are unsafe due to the difference in chamber pressures and the risk of a "light fire". Based on his description of ...

Security System - Pinnacle Security

Had a door to door sales guy from Pinnacle Security come by my house today. They are trying to establish a presence in our city and based on the location of our house they think it would be good location to advertise. With that in mind they are offering to install their high end system and do the mo...

I keep thinking over a nice Ishapore SMLE. It almost... almost has enough lusting to surpass the M1A I want too.

Re: LEO active shooter set-up

Please forgive my ignorance from a completely civilian life. Why did you have to put this together and it not be issued equipment by her department? I see this kind of stuff posted all over the place, be it LEO, .gov, or MIL jobs. People outfitting themselves. If its needed shouldn't it be ISSUED? ...

Going to duracoat it too so should have about 2000 dollars in it when all said and done....Maybe just get an OBR... ...

The only bullpup I am interested in, the TAR-21 http://world.guns.ru/userfiles/images/assault/as30/tavor_02.jpg As a S&W fanboy who loves the .357 cartridge this makes me swoon, S&W 327 TRR8 http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWesson2/upload/images/firearms/detail_md/170269_01_md.jpg The first .3...

Re: LEO active shooter set-up

My understanding is that the newer variants of QuikClot such as the combat gauze were supposed to have solved the issues regarding heat. This is true but I mentioned the powder form because in my, albeit limited, time looking I have found the powder form more than the combat gauze. I should have me...

Re: LEO active shooter set-up

I am an Air Force Self-Aid and Buddy Care trainer and teach my guys how to use quick clot. The big thing to remember with it is not to use it on body cavities (the thermo action will burn organs) or the face. Other than that make sure not to handle it with bare moist hands as it will begin the react...

Has she already prefitted the strap to her body when in uniform/BA and to her preferred carrying position? Hate for her to lose precious moments when she goes to throw the bag on and the strap is drawn to short to put on or it is to long and now she is juggling her rifle while trying to get it adjus...

Re: Hurricane Season 2011 -- start prepping now

Good suggestions! Another general question, when to evacuate? I am in the fortunate position that if evacuation is "highly recommended" or required I can do so on military per diem so cost is not so much a factor. I have a wife, small child and two dogs so I need to balance the need for additional s...

Re: Hurricane Season 2011 -- start prepping now

This will be the first year my family and I have to prep for hurricane season but unfortunately we are also making our move in June so we can't transport a lot of supplies with us. Any tips for first time prepping? I know we need to get a gas wrench because our new house has gas and the one we are i...

Re: Top Shot Reloaded

I am really stunned that George threw that one shot so that Chris would have a chance - I'm not sure how I feel about that. I know Chris needed the $$$ more than George. I'm guessing that's why George did it; he might have figured that Chris' kid going to college was bigger than him buying a bunch ...

Re: Top Shot Reloaded

The wife & I were both sorry to see Jaime leave, he seemed to be a genuinely nice standup guy. The only time George really impressed me was with his 1000yrd shot (too bad he couldn't be bothered to listen to the challenges criteria), doing all that math correctly in his head couldn't be easy. I gue...

Legal Definition of Rifling

We all know that the technical definition of rifling is the lands and grooves in the barrel and the rate at which they twist over a given distance. I am left wondering what is the legal definition of rifling though, particularly as it relates to a minimum twist rate and a minimum depth of the groove...

Re: Title 2 question: What constitutes a VFG on a pistol?

Given the conversation previously about the ATF and dogs I thought I might added an amusing incident from today. We are getting ready to move and my wife was cleaning out a box of old stuff and came across an ATF "trading card" with a picture of one of their bomb sniffer dogs and some fun facts on t...

Re: Poor gun safety makes me nervous

One thing we agreed on, before we shot together, was that neither one of us would hesitate to "call out" the other WRT unsafe or irresponsible gun handling, and that if "called out" we would listen and modify our behavior accordingly, instead of arguing or getting butthurt. Good rule and I would of...

I've been able to run in motocross boots before but I will most likely have some running shoes that I will used for basic travel. See this is a problem. You are talking now about wearing one pair of shoes and carrying the other for when you need it. When you need it there won't be time to take off ...

Re: le mat revolver reproduction. why not?

20gauge or 28 gauge... the ATF will not let it slip because you can´t fire anything else but shotgun shells, and consider it an AOW. 200$ tax stamp + 800-1000$ gun that is quite the novelty = nail in the coffin before it even hits the stores imho. Keep in mind that the $800-$1000 is the retail pric...

Re: Backpack armor?

My main concern would be if the stitching in your pack, especially in a packet designed for a hydration bladder, is going to hold up to the stress from a plate riding along and shifting as it will. I think something else you might want to consider is the wear and tear on your body from carrying this...

Re: Modern Day Pirates, Somalia and beyond

Letters of Marque and Reprisal are banned under the Paris Declaration of 1856 but since the US is not a signatory of this treaty the US could issue such a letter but it is likely other countries would consider the holder a pirate. Still not a bad idea. So even if we don't go as far as issuing Lette...

Re: Modern Day Pirates, Somalia and beyond

I am again left to ask why we can't dust off Article 1 Section 8 of the constitution and start issuing letters of marque to M-PMCs (Maritime-Private Military Contractors... aka Privateers or Pirate Hunters) and allowing for the equipping of Q-Ships to start making piracy much more costly without act...
