Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

A little off topic; can anyone recommend a stocking Tasmanian Tiger dealer in the states? Looking at a new bug out bag, no one seems to have it in Canada and none of the dealers I've contacted have gotten back to me. I've heard one good review on ordering direct, that may be the way I go, but consi...

Re: Good loaded mag grab & go storage?

Not terribly cheap at the moment, but LAPG has sales all the time. This gives some organization so you can stick certain magazines in certain pockets. https://lapolicegear.com/jumbo-bailout-bag.html They have a smaller one as well, but I've seen those and 20 mags may be a stretch. https://lapolicege...

Re: What are you doing to strengthen your immune system?

By "tonic" do you mean tonic water with quinine? Yes, there are studies that suggest zinc + quinine will help as an anti-viral preventative. Yes, tonic water, and yes, for that exact reason. You are also right that a lot of the current lockdowns may be working to reduce the strength of the immune s...

Re: What are you doing to strengthen your immune system?

Great question! In the spring I added zinc once a week and added tonic to my morning OJ. Maybe they help, maybe not? Summer is easy to eat healthy out of my garden. I had a lapse in cardio for 6 weeks but am back to playing hockey twice a week. It's only pickup games which aren't as rigorous as leag...

Re: permaculture suggestions for a useless bit of land

I have a mulberry tree that I do absolutely nothing to and it makes fruit every year. Mulberries are one of the few fruits in my area that have vitamin c as well, so bonus! I really only get 3 or 4 weeks of picking each year, but it's free food that I don't have to do anything to maintain.

Re: EOTW & Dystopian Movies that Actually Helped Your Prepping

For movies I have to say Dawn of the Dead (2004). It showed how a group is only as good as the people in it, a weak link or two and you're all screwed. It also got me thinking about geographic areas that are better to ride out a total collapse, which is a good mental exercise. And it may seem odd, b...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I imagine that if a person builds a safe room for storing stuff disguising the door might be a good idea, but never having made a hidden door I don't know how much of a PITA it would be. I've thought about trying to build one, but I figure I seem to always have so many people in my business that do...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I think my next "safe" is going to just be a storm room, with my safe elsewhere in the house. Yeah, I'm right there with you. I was considering adding a safe, or selling mine to get a bigger one, and then started pricing out how much it would cost to make a room that would be a real pain to get int...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

Yeah, if someone shows up to your house prepared to break into a steel storage container or safe, they are going to get in. They're going to make a bunch of noise doing it, but they'll be in if they bring some prying bars or saws with metal blades or cutting torch. That's not really what these stora...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

Ugh, that sounds like a brutally frustrating time. I'm very curious what it's going to be like replacing it. I have a safe with a digital lock that I've always pondered swapping for a mechanical one.

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I'm assuming that your Mossberg has a rifled barrel and not a rifled choke, because those take different types of slugs. When I first purchased my Marlin 512 Slugmaster 12 gauge I just grabbed whatever slugs I found at Walmart and shot them, but that accuracy was OK at best. I found sabot slugs and...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

So I've got a Mossberg 20 gauge pump that came with 2 barrels. Up until recently I've never tried the slug barrel and I figured I should probably know how it works. It's ported and has rifle style sights. Even with the rear sight adjusted all the way, both slugs I found (slugs made for rifled barrel...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I listed my Ruger Mk. III 22/45 on a local sales page and got zero hits. I chalk that up to the fact there was a gun show in Odessa this weekend and a lot of folks likely went there instead of browsing the sales page. Ah, the most unwanted of all the Ruger 22's. My favorite local shop owner says th...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms related)

Ruger GP100 for the sweetie to use. She's quite comfortable with several 22's but never really thrived shooting centerfire semi-autos. The only serious gun she was comfortable and accurate-ish with is a S&W 64 38 special, and the sights are not great on those (fixed front, trough rear). Found a grea...

Re: What's the best way to get to a 300BLK pistol today?

+1 on checking local independent shops. They often have stuff the internet doesn't. That said, do you have a place to buy 300 BLK ammo? Because right now that's harder to find than the guns if you don't want to pay 3x what it cost a few months ago. People who chose BLK as their goto round are hurtin...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I listed a Glock 23 I bought used a number of years ago and never shot much on Armslist for just a bit higher than msrp of a new one. I had 15 offers to buy in 8 hours. This market is nuts. And I have one less .40 in my safe. :-) I really only listed it that high so people could haggle, which people...

Re: What if Google went down for a week or two

I've been disconnecting from Google, because they're freakin' creepy. Plus I disapprove of some of their politics. You and me both! If their search went down it would take down other search engines that use their DB, like DuckDuckGo. If their cloud services went down it would drop a lot of websites...

Mike's Guns in St Charles. He's always been good to deal with and one of the fairest on trades of any shop I've been in. Rather than raise prices during the panic he has chosen to limit quantities of ammo. Good guy all around.

I have a decent stock but I'm a believer in Clint Smith's way of looking at things. "No one ever complained about having too much ammo in a gunfight."
That may be, but I definitely had too much ammo when it was time to move. See also bullets. That stuff weighs a ton.

Market prices are ridiculously F'ing stupid. Truth. I'm not bothered by it, except for not being able to find primers means I'll start running short in a year or two, but it's frustrating not being able to steer first time gun buyers into good choices, because most gun shops are picked bare....

Why not cast your own? I've been doing it for over 40 years. Because my time is worth more than a dollar an hour. :-) I can buy cast, sized and lubed bullets for $35 per 500, which even if I got all the lead for free, I'd need all the stuff to get started, which even being cheap would cost more tha...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

For reloaders- I put in an order with Missouri Bullet Company (cast bullets only) last week and they said expect 3-4 weeks for shipping. My package showed up yesterday. It was only 1500 bullets, but still impressed how fast they got it out. Sure beats Botach. I put two orders in with them at the end...
