raptor, do you have a take on this? You're quite level headed regarding the COVID-zombies. Well, any and everyone else too, please. New read on the numbers that might play out and when. Thought it an enjoyable read that was well reasoned. Am certainly curious about its plausibility, or non-. https:...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Actually it was kind of funny the market was up ...a lot! And then the Fed eases the interest rate 1/2 point and the bottom dropped out for the day. It was a good day to long on TVIX... it was up 27% when I posed this. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TVIX?p=TVIX&.tsrc=fin-srch A classic case of "Hur...

Re: Pandemic Preparations Influenza, Ebola & Updated for COVID 2019.

I already bought 1 month of grocery as a preparation. There already 90,932 confirmed cases worldwide and 103 in the US. I hope this doesn't get any worse than this. Welcome to the forum! Please go to the introduction thread and introduce yourself when you get a chance. https://www.zombiehunters.org...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

Plentiful because we are a very small nation and there are hospitals and clinics everywhere, which provide top quality care. I imagine when you're in the sticks and Bubba gets bit by a rattler you could be in a bit of a pickle. In that case a good veterinarian would be your best bet. Raw cultural i...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

I am going to go ahead and pretend that you didn't say that 4 million dead in the US of a new health threat is not worrying or life altering. It would mean more people would die from that than all other causes, combined. Did not say that at all. I was however pointing out that COVID 19 does not hav...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

Reminds me of two somewhat related observations. One: in addition to the CoVid-19 virus, I recently got recertified for ARC First Aid/CPR/AED. There are a lot more nasty things out there than CONVID 19. Blood Borne Pathogens like hep A, B & C are reasons enough to wash your hands. Observation two:....

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Dow jumps 1,290 points in biggest-ever point gain. This pop was really a reaction to last week''s sell off which almost all analysts were saying was over done The markets are still down about 2100 points vs the Dec 31 2019 close and the sell off may continue but this correction upward is the market'...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

The estimates I have seen range from 25M-100M dead by the end of 2021 worldwide. To put it in perspective that is about 100 to 800 years worth of flu deaths at current world rates. So yeah, kind of a BFD. This is assuming no effective vaccine is developed, produced and distributed in a timely manne...

Re: I want to spend $100 on rice, black beans and...? Need help locating it.

A lInk to great beans and rice recipe from a NOLA purveyor of red beans. Note they sell red beans so these recipes tend to be bean heavy if you reduce the beans by 1/2 they are still good. Red beans and rice with basically anything is a NOLA Monday specialty city wide. Camelia Brand beans are the go...

haha why would you have believed that every walk-in clinic in the country was closed

That's awesome
None of us believed it. That is why several ZS'ers fact checked it. That is one of the things we do here.

Every single Urgent Care Walk-in Clinic has closed in the US. https://urgentcarelocations.org/ Check it for yourself. The web site says they are closed but I called the one closest to me and they said they were open and they had no idea why the site showed closed. Call a local one and ask them. The...

Re: I want to spend $100 on rice, black beans and...? Need help locating it.

EDIT: I should mention, I chose to go mostly with rice and lentils. The cook times are fairly close for standard white rice and both red and brown lentils. On paper, "about 20 minutes." This means more efficient use of resources and less cooking complications. But I have a bunch of different beans ...

Word to the wise: stay the hell away from such tools during particularly volatile periods in the market. The corollary to the rule is never rejoice over market value gains until the final share is sold and the proceeds are in the bank. Remember the market in 2019 especially the last part of 2019 an...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

1918 America didn't have people criss-crossing the country between hotspots. Actually they had a LOT of travel cross country and cross ocean traffic in 1918. That is what facilitated the spread of the flu. WW-1 was ending and troops were coming home so there were troops held in close quarters and t...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

2% death rate may not sound alarming. But if everyone in US gets it. 2% x 300,000,000 = 6,000,000 That’s a lot of American deaths. Yes assuming everyone in the US gets it. A more likely bad case scenario is ~ 1/4 of the population contracts it and about 2% die from it which is still 1.5 million peo...

That is a good plan summary. I will be candid about CONVID 2019. Strictly opinion here not fact. It will suck if you get COVID ...

Yep...& there is a vaccine that reduces the risk from pneumonia. generally it is the elderly and those with impaired immune systems (i.e. AIS, cancer, etc.). 2) Pneumonia kills a lot of people every week in the US.
