Re: For the Prepper who has everything
I don't need a fighter jet. I don't need a fighter jet. I don't need a fighter jet. I can't fly one, the local airport probably doesn't have a hangar I could use and the storage fees would be nuts. Although, I probably could offset some of the cost by renting the jet to the local PD or maybe one of...

Re: Home defence with an airgun? Countries with no fire arms allowed
Simple answer: if the locality in question uses the UK restriction of a 12 foot pound limitation on energy, the answer is no. Typical .22lr as a 40 grain bullet at standard velocity of 1000 fps is 90 foot pounds; a 29 grain .22 short at 750 fps is 35. A CB cap of 20 grains and 500 fps I think fits ...

Australian here. UXB is actually a bit of a concern here due to the number of ww2 bases around Northern Australia. finding abandoned munitions (grenades, bullets, artillery rounds, bombs) did happen for a while after the closure of the bases. You can still find the odd munition even today. I imagine...

Re: Child ID bracelets?
saw this topic being brought up, thought I would share my 2 cents. The idea of ID bracelets for the kids is a wonderful one and more people should do it. However I do wish to remind everyone (not that anyone here needs reminding) but you shouldn't leave the kids unattended, zooming off following the...

where to begin - cleaned the car and washed it - booked it into my friendly mechanic for a service - received new switches for install (to keep that OEM look) - upgraded the headlights to aftermarket halogens - purchased some halogen spotlights (upgrading to HID) - installed new UHF CB antenna. - re...

Disclaimer: What I am about to talk about has been used for rescue and medical responses, nothing illicit. Often some lateral thinking is required when you go to a medical call to a locked house. the patient is normally unable to unlock the door, and they live alone. Some ways I've managed to get in...

As NT2C and raptor said - Fuse it, if you are running one or two aftermarket electrical devices inline fuses are ok, any more and you would want to install an aftermarket fusebox, makes fault finding easier - Wire thickness. the thicker the wire the less voltage drop over distance, the thicker wire ...

Mount Kosioscu is the tallest peak in Oz, I would do a google search of any deaths in the area to skiers, exposure, avalanches to see if it worth mentioning. My wife is a geophysicist and she confirmed that Australia has no fault activity so I would skip that or just put a link to New Zealand's EQC...

Sounds like a cool project. If I remember right, ZS used to have a wiki; I don't recall it being heavily populated, though. I might initially lay your document out as an outline, for overall organizational purposes. E.g. just off the top of my head: 0. Definitions and overview 1. Threat Assessments...

an Australian How to guide to prepping...thoughts?
Hello All, placing this here because well, it's about planning and preparation. I've been reading through various articles on prepping and bugging out, and the overwhelming majority of the texts are aimed at an american audience. I've been slowly collecting various reference material on australian s...

I keep cash on hand for emergencies, work of advice, have a good mix of values, I go with 10 of each (10x $5, 10x$10 etc) really makes paying for things easier as the teller might not have change.

Funny you should bring this up, just had major flooding where I live (2019 Australia) Shelter in Place is the best option, trying to walk through floodwater in an urban setting is really dangerous, hidden currents, popped manhole covers, rapid erosion, animals in water, power, damaged bridges the li...

New Zealand is already looking at changing their firearm laws after this event, similar to what Australia did after Port Arthur. I hope that any new law minimizes disruptions to an excellent, friendly and courteous shooting community.

If you have the funding, I'd recommend making a trauma specific kit and a 'sick call' kit.

what about portable batteries? work charges the batteries via solar, then move the charged batteries to the machine requiring them.

Just a crazy idea

If you work with a company that expects you to wear protective eye wear, see if they are willing to assist (or better yet pay) for a set of prescription safety glasses. Re: You're at work. Things go bad. What would you do?
This is a downside (among many) of working as a paramedic...business picks up when things go bad. policy is to shelter at station during severe weather events (cyclones) then continue to work until relieved. You will have paramedics doing 24 hour to 72 hour shifts depending on the location of the st...
