Very nice kit. You seem to have all the basics of water, fire, shelter and food covered. I would pic up a full sized bic if I were you, though. Can't wait to see details of your fak. Once again, very nice BOB.

How about replacing your blanket with a down bag. It would take up the same or less space, weigh less, and keep u warm at night. Nothing sucks more then shivering through a night outdoors except doing it more then once. I actually picked up a fleece sleeping bag yesterday that I think I'll replace ...

Re: Low profile VS. high profile gear???

Throw some patches and/or pins on it and -abracadabra- you're a student / hippie. IMO, a lot of this depends on your location. I wouldn't think that it's a great idea to play G.I. Joe in suburbia or a metropolitan area. That's a wonderful idea, and the solution to a problem I've had for sort of awh...

Hey, nice kit! The only thing I'd get rid of, if I were you, is that snake bite kit. Most snake bit kits are a joke, but if you're really set on carrying one you should drop the $15 on a Sawyer Extraction Kit. Also, unless I missed it, I didn't see anything you could use for shelter in a pinch. A sm...

I remember seeing a post where someone did that, except they made their own and put all kinds of stuff in it. After 30 min of searching, still can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I tried to ask in IRC the other night. Do you have any pictures / links to your tent? My 7' x 7' dome is just too bulky to carry. This is the tent I have: http://www.amazon.com/Stansport-Scout-Backpack-Tent-2-Person/dp/B0006V2B2I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1220288377&sr=8-1" onclick="w...

One suggestion about the Bersa as a Bug-out gun; if that second magazine is not a Bersa factory mag, ditch it . With Bersa's, especially the 380 CC , the after market mags are beyond crap and unreliable. It its is factory mag, I'd trust it, but all after market mags for that gun I've read about are...

Hi there! It looks like you've got a pretty nice set up. If you're trying to save space though, you might want to ditch the whole roll of toilet paper in exchange for some camper's toilet paper. Same material, but packaged without dead space in the middle, where the roll is. You can usually buy it a...

Hi there Tequila! I'm actually no longer in TX. I've been up in Central Ohio for about six months now. We do get winter here, but I'm sure it's nothing like winter where you're from. Once last March we had a snowstorm dump 20 inches on us and people thought it was the end of the world. I grew up onl...

Just curious. Is that bag big enough to either strap heavier cold weather gear to it once it starts getting colder or are you going to have another 'add on' bag to go with it once the snow starts flying. I actually don't plan on adding any more cold weather clothes to my bag. In this bag I've got m...

I like it. Your clothing looks good too. Unless I missed it maybe a Platy bag to hold more water if you run into a good supply in the field. Packs down to nothing when not filled. I like that you carry plenty of water. Texas heat makes a lasting impression, doesn't it? :D Of course, that's 11 lbs (if I did the math right). I also like the well labeled bags. I have a headlamp like that and it works OK, but it's bulky and not comfortable for long. I'm looking for a more compac...

Thirty pounds with the pup tent.

I've not had the opportunity to hike this pack yet, but I day hiked my old pack with similar contents back in Texas. That pack weighed 28 lbs, was built for a guy and had a less helpful waist strap.

Re: Tyler's BOB needs to go on a diet

In my opinion, you should ditch the orange survival book. I have it and it's not all that great. Mostly it seems geared towards constructing a simple BOB ahead of time and then sitting still for 3 days while someone comes and finds you. Potentially useful advice for lost campers, but not so much if ...
