Re: Firearms Chat 4: #pewpewlife

That is a nice looking revolver. Welllllllll....I figured out my bullet runout issue. It all starts with the pre-processed Lake City brass I have been buying. The guy I was buying it from....he no longer does brass sales anymore....was using an automated Dillon 1050, with a trimmer. He was using a 1...

Re: Firearms Chat 4: #pewpewlife

Because I don't like leaving loose ends, in the previous firearms chat thread, I mentioned that I had some bullet runout or concentricity issues with my own handloaded .223 ammo . I had cobbled together a concentricity gauge out of a little block of steel, 4 pieces of slingshot ammo, a magnetic base...

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

Here are a couple of videos showing that new AccuracyOne Concentricity gauge. First up is my reloads: https://youtu.be/oD5PWbfuFpY So that is about 7 to 8 thousandths of runout. 0.007 to 0.008 And then I am using some Black Hills factory ammo as like a control group: https://youtu.be/IBD9J943mfI Whi...

It would be interesting to take one of those infrared/laser temperature guns to the range. Then get a temperature reading of the barrel before and after a 5 shot string and then after a 10 shot string.

I would say my barrel got into the 130*F, in between the gas block and the muzzle.

Re: Pics of XM855 and XM193 groups at 100 yards...sadness en

Doing a little more research...I mean googling... M855 and M193 are meant to be just 3 to 4 MOA ammo. In my case, the XM193 shot better than the XM855. If you were to take a weekend carbine class, I would think that XM855 would be the most appropriate ammo for that. Save the good stuff for another t...

Re: Pics of XM855 and XM193 groups at 100 yards...sadness en

The blue squares are post it notes that are 3 inches by 3 inches square. I try to plant the crosshairs right on the intersection of where the 2 white lines meet. Then make sure that there are equal amounts of blue all around all 4 "corners" of the crosshairs. I picked up a paint stirring stick from ...

Re: Pics of XM855 and XM193 groups at 100 yards...sadness en

This is just a test post to see if the pics are small enough to post. FAKE EDIT: nope, pics still too big. Dang forum software! I think it is a 1 full twist in 9 inches (1:9), but when I get home, I will have to take a look again. The barrel length is 20 inches. It is a heavier or thicker profiled b...

Pics of XM855 and XM193 groups at 100 yards...sadness ensues

I finally made it to the range yesterday. I had splurged the night before by buying one ammo can of XM855 and one ammo can of XM193. I used Black Hills 55 grainers as my control: http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/gryphon1994/20170321_171444_zpsuipks0lh.jpg I was pleased with that group. :clap...

Also bought some XM855 and XM193, ammo cans of both.

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

Is there a problem w/"Glock'd brass"? Yes, but it is mainly with the .40's. The chamber area or ramp area for the Glock 22's and Glock 35's is "wollered out", supposedly to aid feeding/reliability. Here is the first pic that came up on a bing image search: http://www.wingman26.com/images/shooting/g...

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

Over at AR15.com, I stumbled across the "One MOA all day" challenge. There are some rules to it, and they would like for people to use their target, which looks like this: http://www.larue.com/images/target-arfcom.jpg It is 5 shots on each of the 5 bolt face logos. Then each group is measured. They ...

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

For pistol reloading (9mm, .40, and .45ACP), I have 3 separate dedicated toolheads for my Dillon 650. Each of those toolheads are set up exactly the same. Station #1 is an Evolution Gun Works/Lee Undersize die. Station #2 is the proprietary Dillon powder through/powder funnel/case mouth belling die....

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

You guys were talking about ammo cans a page or two back. I used chalkboard paint on a few of mine. There is something like a SAW can or a fat .50 that allows me to stick 14 bricks of primers in them. So I had printed out a thing in Word that was a strip about 2 inches wide. It said something like: ...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

Chills, I love my DPMS Oracle lr308. It runs like a top every time I take it out. It was good enough last December to take two elk wearing a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot with a 3X magnifier on a flip to the side mount. It did so well that I decided to get a second one. With that said I went to one of th...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

Its the Oracle lr308. Carbine length gas system. Its the twin to my other one that Brought down two elk last December so I figured I nedded a second one as backup. I was interested in stepping up to a .308, and the DPMS Oracle LR308 stuck out to me. Granted it was on the lower end of the price spec...

Re: Post it notes for sighting in targets...

I always wanted to try putting something like a cheap light offset behind the target to make holes pop a little more when viewed through a spotting scope. Maybe couple it an overhang of the target stand to block direct sunlight on the holes from the front so back lit holes contrast a little more. T...

Post it notes for sighting in targets...

The idea to do this came from the chat thread. So I bought 3 inch by 3 inch and 2 inch by 2 inch post it notes from wally world. I came up with two different configurations. The first is with a 1 inch gap: http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/gryphon1994/20170206_165835_zpsr2p1drta.jpg My theory...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

I was just doing some reloading. Turns out a Winchester small rifle primer tray is in fact 3x3 inches. So that could be used to trace as a template on neon colored paper to produce 3x3 squares. Or if you have enough of they you could spray paint them and glue them to a board as targets. Brilliant! ...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

I was thinking about just using white copier/printer paper and using neon sticky labels made by Avery, but I can't find 3"X3" or 2"X2" labels locally. Then placing 4 labels in a 4 square or grid pattern with a one inch or 1.5 inch gap between them. I can find plenty of brightly colored 2"X2" and 3"X...

I still have my eye on that used Beretta 390 which probably has 28, 30, or 32 inch barrels....so just the opposite of what you guys...
