Re: What's In A Refugee's Backpack?
I think a key takeaway and reminder, for me, was to keep the kit light and simple. It shouldn't be a big pack or heavy. Probably helps if you could sit with it in your lap for a long time. Run, even swim with your gear.

Yes! I'm a huge advocate of packing real food from the fridge and pantry and eating it in the field. Always nice to see a Ka-Bar in action, too. Well done. Thanks for posting.

Re: IAT backpacking trip
Looking at your kit, I'm thinking the biggest difference is your pack and your sleeping bag. I don't even see your sleeping bag. In hot weather, none. I take only the USGI poncho liner, weighing about 1.5 pounds. I have a Western Mountaineering 20-degree bag for the cold. It's 2 pounds and not much...

Good topic.
Be aware that most military NBC masks, especially surplus, aren't designed to filter heavy smoke and in extreme heat will melt to your face.

16 lbs is pretty damn light. Would you be willing to share your pack list? Sorry, I didn't record the load out for this trip. The total pack weight (before I drank the beer) was 28 pounds. Here's a link to the gear and food I took on a similar outing about two years ago: https://www.zombiehunters.o...

Yup. Mostly on the night shift crime beat. And in the infantry, once upon a time. When it's time to run and gun, you do what you gotta do.

Yup, that was the case during my tour in 91-92. The ROK army seemed ready and eager to end the stalemate once and for all.

Unless NK has developed tanks able to cross soggy, unfrozen rice paddies I doubt they will invade the south for the time being.
