Re: Adventures in rice, beans and bulk dry milk storage

This was well worth the bump, Tacair. But I got melancholy for the days when all those people posted here. :) I am wondering what you do with the fatty foods every 2 years? I assume you take them out - eat them - and replace with fresh? Or have they gone bad by time you dig into them? What are the g...

Re: Knives other than Mora with real full tang?

I emailed Hultafors about which of their knives are full tang and which are rat tail. It doesn't say on their site. BTW you have to buy in bulk from their site. But Lamnia carries pretty much the full line. Very very similar to Mora. And similar prices. I've never had a knife so sharp as a cheap Mor...

Re: Knives other than Mora with real full tang?

I was thinking more of something made in Scandinavia. In a similar style to the Mora. Not something made out of questionable Chinese steel. They have a few on Lamnia at that link. But it doesn't say whether it's full tang or rats tail. It's in the full tang section. But so is Mora. And it's a rat ta...

Knives other than Mora with real full tang?

I was perusing Lamnia and saw several Mora type knives from Finland etc. And was wondering if any of these similar styled knives were actually full tang? And not rat tails like the Mora? Anyone know of any? Thinking sub $15. Or even $20. https://www.lamnia.com/en/sc/5/knives/fixed-blade-knives?sgid=...

Re: Why are tents such ugly damn colors?!

Thanks Ronny. Here are some of those tents you mention for 2019. I really like this Mountainsmith 3p tent. It's $300. Not bad for a 3p tent. And at 5lbs with no footprint. It's a good option. https://mountainsmith.com/vasquez-peak-3.html Not really a subdued color but at least it's one color. This o...

Re: Why are tents such ugly damn colors?!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. And I'm glad to hear from Ronnyronin that there are some subdued colors out this year. I'll have to look harder. Not in the market for a new tent. But when I bought my Marmot Trailight 2p a few years ago. It had a pic of a really nice brown color. Only to find out when...

Why are tents such ugly damn colors?!

Why can't someone make an economical tent in nice subdued solid colors? Is that so hard? Was looking at Kelty and a few others. Man the colors are like vomit. lol.

https://mytrailco.com/ Is going out of business. They still have a few down jackets in various weights. ANd rain coat and other items. I wouldn't go below 800fil unless your just looking for a sweater type down jacket. Some large sizes available up to a 52 inch chest. Which is cool. that's hard to f...

It looks like the Armamentos AK .22 kit I posted in the All Purpose AK thread a few months ago. According to Ian the Armamentos kit is also from Croatia....same kit, different name/distributor? https://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af242/boomslang45/pardon.gif http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26PS3SgF...

Re: 10 bay AA Nimh battery charger going bad?

Well after charging for an entire day. I only lost 4 of the about 15 that I had. Thanks for the advice guys. I won't be leaving anything on the charger from here on out. How long can they be stored before they need a new charge?

Re: 10 bay AA Nimh battery charger going bad?

Well of the ten bats I put in the charger 2 now show a green light. So that's good. I did use to leave them on the charger for when I needed them. I'll stop doing that.

10 bay AA Nimh battery charger going bad?

So I have a 10 bay AA and AAA charger. Generic model from China I got with a bunch of Tenergy Nimh AA's I bought. Hooks up to AC. HAd it for years. But haven't used it in a year or so. I had 4 AA's in my electronic safe that got low. So I popped them into the charger. They sat overnight and the indi...

Re: Building a BOBike

One issue with folks thinking about e-bikes is that they're counting on the electric motor to make up for deficiencies in their own fitness level. I can see that if one is actually facing a disability, but when you can go out and 'fix' yourself, an un-powered bike can have far more utility than an ...

Re: lighters - a basic discussion

Here's a better pic of that Zippo end cap. Pretty ingenious. Any reviews on how good it works? Does it cut down on evaporation of fuel? Reviews so far are pretty superficial (fits good, etc.) Some reviews on amazon are negative, reporting the rubber shrinking, or having no effect: https://www.amazo...

Re: How do you fix a flashlight?

Is it ok to leave my 18650's in the charger? I'm thinking about just keeping them in there so they're always charged. Or will that kill the batteries? I used to do this with my NIMH's and didn't seem to bother them. But I'm not experienced with Lion. Both the reputable battery manufacturers and the...

Re: How do you fix a flashlight?

Not 8 hours later I got a nice email from Dylan at Fenix. With a repair video, and an address and RMA number to send it in for repairs to Arkansas. The lifetime warranty covers everything but parts after a certain time. It's a pretty old flashlight. I bought it at a garage sale at REI like 10 yrs ag...

Re: How do you fix a flashlight?

Make sure you have a fresh battery inserted the correct way (take one from a working flashlight - I've gotten dead ones straight out of a new package) and short the base of the battery to the case of the flashlight. If the light does not go on it's likely the LED module, which is probably not repai...

Re: How do you fix a flashlight?

On these (and others of this style) the problem isn't the "bulb" (it's an LED), it's the tailcap. Specifically, it's the metal screw/ring that holds the tailcap module in the tailcap body. I just had to fix a Lumintop AA with this problem. https://i.imgur.com/87ULjAxl.jpg See the silver ring with t...
