Re: New Zealand Mosque Shootings

I wrote a long tactical piece on this after watching the video. Because I didn't believe I could have an opinion without first seeing what happened. But now after reading the entire thread. I don't think it's necessary. And I don't wish to post it. I'm barely able to post this. As I fear retribution...

Re: lighters - a basic discussion

Another lighter I recommend is the Aomai AM127. Design wise, its based on the classic Windmill outdoor survival lighter, but slightly larger. While Windmill lighters are known for their "invisible" windproof jet flame, the Aomai uses a catalyser screen that is lightly coated in a chemical like stro...

Re: lighters - a basic discussion

I've been on a little bit of a lighter kick lately - rediscovering an old passion of mine. Thought I'd share some collected info and suggestions. First up, IMCO, Zippo, and XL Peanut lighter info: IMCO Tank: Empty = 4.1g Full = 7.8g --> Fuel capacity 3.7g Zippo Tank: Empty = 28g Full = 31.5g -->Fue...

Re: What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

Not sure if any of you are into LED headlight upgrades. But everyone on my Jeep forum is raving about these Trucklight knockoffs. Trucklights are the high end led headlight. That generally run several hundred dollars. These knockoffs are supposedly about 99% as good. And they only cost $99 in a 7 i...

Re: Moab bought a '99 Jeep Wrangler TJ!

Well I got my garage cleaned out. But apparently there's no way to screen ex-con meth users in CL. lol. Guy was fast. But man was he and his family weird. Needed to sage the place when he was done. I thought they left a bunch of food out in my garage as it smelled like a rotting corpse afterwards. C...

Re: What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

On a trip to NM to visit family, I made a sorta-test-run with my Suburban (also avoided paying for a room). With the back seats folded down (third row is sitting in my basement), I aired up a twin air mattress in the back. It was quite warm, but a fan made it bearable. There was still plenty of roo...

Big padded rifle case $29.99. OD Green or ACU. These may be VooDoo tactical seconds but I'm not sure. This is my local surplus store. Great deals. And quality products. They're owned by Voodoo Tactical.

Clamptite tool. Make your own heavy duty clamps in the field.

I don't get to excited about a new tool very often. But this one is pretty nifty. It makes hose clamps out of wire in the field. That rival traditional ones. It can also be used for an endless array of repairs. To any type of bug out or bug in gear you can think of. I put this in the transport secti...

Re: Moab bought a '99 Jeep Wrangler TJ!

it looks great man. Thanks. It will look a lot better in a couple weeks. As I've hired a couple guys to help me rearrange the garage and get rid of a ton of stuff. And set my shop back up. So I can actually pull it indoors and work on it. Next up is new full doors, new seats (well both used but new...

Re: Moab bought a '99 Jeep Wrangler TJ!

Well I got good news this last week. I fell in with the really hardcore Jeepers in Socal online. Over the last couple months. And finally got referred to Westminster Transmission Service here in Socal. I had taken my Jeep to FOUR other places that all told me I needed a rebuilt or replacement to the...

Re: Weatherproof Wilderness First Response Kit - pelican style?

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this. But Harbor Freight sells a Pelican like case for a fraction of the cost. And it gets pretty good reviews. For something that you likely to just fit in your car or bug out location it would fit the bill perfectly. Their brand is called Apache. We don't have H...

Re: I'm moving to Alaska.

Well, I landed in AK yesterday, bought a 2005 Jeep Liberty today. Ole KJ has 90k miles and came with studded Firestone Winterforces. Has standard part-time 4wd with open diffs. So it goes well, but not as nice as the limited-slip rear end as later models. Congrats dude!!! Thank ya thank ya. Probabl...

Re: I'm moving to Alaska.

Where'd you buy a 2001 XJ for $3000?! That would be 10k anywhere else. :) HAHAHA people may think it's worth 10 grand from the craigslist prices that I see. I bought it for $3500 in 2014 with 112k miles on it from a friend-of-a-friend's father-in-law. Pretty good deal for PA as it had zero rust (sn...

Re: I'm moving to Alaska.

Updates: Officially leaving for Canada at the end of this month. Trying to make the 4000 miles in 5 days. Also, took the Harbor Freight cargo rack back. Never buy a "flip up" version as it bounces like crazy. Got a solid version to haul some gear. Also, I receiver tightener is a great invention. Co...

Re: High gain AM/FM automotive antenna mast?

Because of the wavelengths involved with broadcast band (both AM and FM) radio you really can't compare them well to CB. The frequencies are too far apart to have more than very general characteristics in common. There's a lot of other differences between the two that make it a poor comparison. The...

Re: High gain AM/FM automotive antenna mast?

I would take a look at the Ed Fong antennas for GMRS. Should do much better than your current antenna, but will require you to hoist them in the air. While they are made for GMRS rx/tx, I bet they would also improve AM/FM. Swap for the shorty when on the move. I might Google around for solutions to...
