Geez, I've never seen such a silly argument. I'm sure Glocks and 1911s are both great guns. Glocks have a great overall reputation and I'm sure it's because they're fine. The 1911 wouldn't have been picked by the US military if it was crap. In short, I'd pick up either gun on a whim to defend...

Wow, that looks REALLY nice! Sadly I don't have that kind of money to spend on a scope. Cheap, solid, and reasonably accurate is what I'm looking for.

Which of these scopes?

Hello! I've done (a little) research on which scope for my AK-47. The goal is to plink a zombie head at 100-150 yards. I know AK-47s aren't that accurate at distances past that. To me, that means since I'm dealing with relatively short distances, I don't need to spend half a grand on a scope. I hope...

Rifle Scopes?

Hello, I just ordered a scope mount for my AK-47. Just today, a day or two before I get the mount, I realized I don't actually know ANYTHING about scopes. Can I find a good scope for around $50, or do I have to buy an expensive scope? What brands/magnifications/types of scopes do you suggest? I'll a...

I guess Glocks and other expensive handguns are nice, but I like my big, ugly Ruger P89 9mm. It's $389 new and has features found in other guns that cost over twice as much. There's no "break-in period", no problems to deal with. Just take the gun off the sales counter, go into the range, put the ch...

Okay, let me expand a little bit more. Let's say there was a long-term zombie plaque, something that lasted for over a year or posisbly much more. In that case, I would presume there'd be limited cleaning supplies, repair parts, etc. Which gun is going to survive not being cleaned/maintained as it p...

If you could only have one of the two abovementioned rifles to defend yourself against a civil or zombie uprising, which would you prefer? They cost the same and I'm buying one.

If your has the side mount rail, you might consider buying a scope or red dot for it, and see how you do then. Actually, I would like to get a scope mount for my Century Arms AK. Not knowing much about sights, my first reaction is that I'd like a see-through, you know, the kind where you can use th...

Thanks for the advice on the Garands. However, I don't want this thread to get hijacked (partially by me) to end up being about Garands. I'm looking for a rifle that is fairly accurate, semi-auto, and reliable that NOT a Garand. I suppose I could drop as much as $600+ on the thing. The rifle does no...

"Bores will be generally good with only minor imperfections; the barrel crown may be nicked, and the muzzle may gauge more than “3” on muzzle gauge. The Throat Erosion will gauge less than 5 - well within US Army standards." I'm not sure I want to bet my life on a "generally good" bore. and "there m...

Get a Garand from the CMP. That's about in your $500 range. Go to www.odcmp.com for more info. Trebor, thanks for the heads up on the website. I was checking the prices on the Garands you were talking about. The $500 Garands are fairly junky and have significant corrosion, cracked wood, etc. I need...

Which rifle to get?

Hello, everyone! I have only recently gotten into guns. I have: 1 - Ruger P89 9mm between my mattresses for home protection 2 - Bersa Thunder .380 for concealed carry 3 - A West German .22 rifle my father got me when I was a kid 4 - Romanian AK-47 semi-auto, acquired only three weeks ago. 5 - An ori...

Greetings from western North Carolina!

Hello! My name is Erik. I'm a seventh grade science teacher from Marion, North Carolina. That's about thirty miles east of Asheville, NC and around 100 miles northwest of Charlotte. I have to use larger cities to let everyone know where I am even though Marion is the largest city in McDowell county....
