The AK is definately the best of your choices. If your gun dies, you're screwed. The AK, by far, is the least likely to break from hard use or lack of maintenance.

Hey it was worth it to me. Not a bad way to spend your night and the cost was right. I would have tried going $15 for 4 but not bad. Might go back and get some more and sell 'em for $10 each. I've considered it....but the remaining two or three I found were in really, really bad shape - the magazin...

AK-47 Magazine Rehabilitation! :)

Hello, everyone! I only had two magazines for my AK and decided it was past time to add some more. I was at a pawn shop with my wife on Wednesday and spied a box full of rusty/muddy mags. Apparently, they had been in the flood that went through our area (and killed 11 people!) a couple of years back...

Erik, glad to see a fellow science teacher (astronomy & physics here). Cool! What grade level do you teach, and where? I teach 7th grade science. In North Carolina right now, that's weather, genetics, human body, and basic mechanical physics. In other years, I've also taught chemistry (my favorite)...

36% here too. Max is full of crap. I have a huge advantage over the vast majority of the American population: If I saw a zombie, I'd know what it was immediately and not walk to it saying something stupid, saying, "Are you all right, sir/maam?" or close the blinds and say, "It's okay honey - probabl...

Wuss, any real man could live on Venus *L* Yeah, Venus is a real friendly place. As a science teacher, let me tell you how fun Venus is - If you could imagine you were parachuting into Venus' atmosphere, it would be a race to see which way you would die first. Let's see which ways you might die! W0...

Charlotte, NC Gun Show this Saturday. I have questions.

Tonya and I are going to the Charlotte, NC gun show this Saturday (11/25). Anyone else going to this? Do the vendors usually accept debit or credit cards at such functions? Can they do NC rifle checks there?

At least, not for long. Modern hunting, and heavier loads (180gr. +) tend to fuck the operating system up.
Really? I'm glad you mentioned this. What do you recommend a person shoot out of a Garand in order to maximize its usefulness?

Thanks!

ok why are pepole saying that they could get ammo&parts from the soldiers in the paw? what if a soldier decides he likes your ar and takes it? ZK makes an interesting point that brings up ANOTHER point in my mind. It seems to me that during the PAW, there'd actually be a fair number of dead people ...

Animosity, this may be a weird thing to say, but: Whenever I see your picture you've got the bottom of your post, here's my my brain automatically sees: The wood stock on one of the guns on the left of the picture looks almost exactly like a lower arm and fist to me. The stance of the zombie in your...

When it comes to guns, I am a fan of the SKS. 7.62 ammunition has great stopping-power, the gun is cheap-rugged, relatively accurate, and if you trick it out you can get yourself a nice AK-47 banana clip. Don't get the banana clip. It will screw you hard.....Trust me. I like the SKS too. I've been ...

Garands ARE accurate to 500 yards, at least with a scope. Check up on the military specs for M1s (they're all over the internet). AKs certainly are not, with or without a scope. I stuck an expensive scope on my AK, sighted it in for 200 yards, kept the rifle in a clamp, and was getting shot grouping...

So you'll be engaging human targets at 500 yards. They'll most likely be moving. I said it already, but I'll repeat myself. At 500 yards a human target is completely obscured. You're talking about shooting at a spec. A moving spec. (if you can see them at all) If you're shooting 500 yards with iron...

So do you seriously buy firearms in case of the PAW? Uh, sure. This IS a survivalist website, right? Anyway, firearms would be a must in a PAW. If you think civilization can't take a vacation, I recommend you ask the people who lost their family members, businesses and homes how things went during ...

Gosh, I WANT to....I just can't past the nagging feeling that it can't handle the beating it might take in a PAW. Then again, it WOULD be relatively easy to find parts for it.......hmmmm. Does the US military use them?

The message was that someone who can't shoot would be innacurate with either weapon, not that the weapons are similair. Failure, You're absolutely right, but at the same time, there are limitations to all firearms. The main limitation of the AK, in my mind, is that the it has limited useful range. ...

I've already got a Mauser K98 and an Ak-47. I love shooting both and am good at shooting them. Sorry, I've not shot thousands rounds out of the Mauser...maybe only about one thousand. Here's the scope I'm ordering. It's the most expensive one I can buy with my budget. I'll stick it on my AK at the lowest setting, but I might also interchange it with my K98. $140. I'd like your opinions on this scope please. I realize that except on the lowest two settings, it's too powerful for a...
