Re: The Sheep Farming Thread

The first lamb of 2016 has just been born, 3 days early to a Texel ewe that we hadn't even been keeping an eye on as there are 2 others that are overdue :clownshoes:

The Sheep Farming Thread

It is, thanks :) My leg is not what it was before I broke it, but it works and I don't need crutches any more, despite mr wee drop saying I walk like Quasimodo (charming) I'm not expecting there to be any real difference between what I can do during lambing last year & this year. We sold some in lam...

Flooding in Scotland, Ireland and N. England

I noticed today that this old tree had not survived the storm, most of them in that area have suffered storm damage at various times: http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/01/993f1c2c74e0b661af535279fbc3c095.jpg Also we have part of a roof from a neighbours shed laying in one of our fields, but all i...

Re: Flooding in Scotland, Ireland and N. England

Looks like we got of light (so far) on the Nort East coast, windy but no rain or snow yet. How's everyone else fairing ? Ok, at my farm anyway. I haven't watched the local news yet. Thankfully my chickens were unruffled and the sheep are all ok. The wind was fierce though! :oh: There were road clos...

Frank is getting lively http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/29/63b7d9e3c8f6ae2a1a0b4a9f59ad69bd.jpg I closed my hens in their coop early today. Our generator is on standby. The sheep are either in the lambing sheds or in our fields which have plenty of shelter. Hopefully the winds will not get any ...

And it begins again for another year  Our first batch of ewes to lamb are due at the end of January, they weren't meant to be brought into the lambing shed till mid January but the weather has been so awful that our fields are sodden and light of grass. We got the lambing shed prepared this m...

Re: Flooding in Scotland, Ireland and N. England

We got off lightly in the Dublin region, power stayed up and there was no major flooding. It is kind of cool knowing that the water running through the shughs on our land, flows down to the River Bush and ultimately feeds the water supply making Old Bushmills whiskey :D

Re: Home Security: Thermal Style

that's why the old British stone homes had thick walls and small windows, not only was glass expensive it reduced heat loss. My farmhouse is approx 130 years old (a conservative estimate) and stone built. There are a few rooms which could do with an extra window & it's not the most bright and airy ...

How to Prepare Against a Mumbai Style Attack

We arrived in Paris last night just before the attacks began, they were already ongoing when we arrived at our hotel in central Paris. Everything seemed normal for Paris on a Friday night (we've been here before). We had no idea of anything untoward, in fact it was my mother back home in Ireland tha...
