Re: hearse bov

A nice place to find some good, fun, and odd info on lesser known skills. Lindsay Publications. Many of their books are reprints of old 1900's books http://www.lindsaybks.com/prod/index.html

Newer one? Why not just a Suburban 4X4 or other SUV like vehicles with lots of room? Sure a hearse could be ...

Re: Surplus Tanks for bug out vehicle?
I would totally love a Ferret, they are pretty cool, and not overly expensive for what they are. But before I would consider a Ferret I would go for a Unimog like this one available for $23,900 at http://www.keaslersjunk.com/unimog_backhoe.html http://www.keaslersjunk.com/images_2008/unimog_001.jpg ...

Re: Wall tent vs log cabin
I personally like yurts. I lived near the home of Pacific Yurt company and got to go walk around in them. They are quite nice. Though you would really want something more like a 30' yurt for permanent living you could easily live in a smaller one if it was only occasional living. Something to consid...

Re: Axe or hatchet? I want a gerber but dont know which size
IIRC, Wetterlings is actually owned by Gransfors Bruks now. Yep they are, but produce and run independently. Gransfors Bruks realized that Wetterlings makes a great axe and was smart enough not to mess with it. Which I am quite thankful for. I do prefer the Wetterlings over the Gransfors Bruks, but...

A similar design to the Vargo is the Ti-Tri three fuel Caldera system though costs a bit more than the Vargo http://wiki.backpackinglight.com/images/a/a7/Titri-300.jpg video of the Ti-Tri Caldera stove. Re: Axe or hatchet? I want a gerber but dont know which size
I have the 14" and 17" Gerber/Friskars axes. I got them by someone leaving them at my brothers with a lot of other camping gear. I have a wood stove for my primary heating and use these axes daily. While nice and sharp they cut well they do not retain an edge well. They are easily damaged though als...

Re: Why matches?
I think a lot of the replies here have missed the point of the OP. I don't think he was even specifically saying lighters are always better than matches. After reading this thread a few times I think the true point of the thread isn't even fire starting devices. The point I got from this thread was ...
