Re: Strike anywhere matchs
Buying matches online is fairly silly to do. Most stores have 'em, same price, no shipping yada yada. I always keep a box in the shed, never know when you want to light something up. I've left them outside, they've gotten very damp, but dry 'em out and they are ready to rock and roll. The big ones (...

Ditch the tacticool machete man. I did a little bit of research on it, becuase yes, I thought it looked awesome as well, it is 440 stainless steel. Which is an awesome grade of steel, for short, cheap knives and display swords . I did a bit of extensive machete research, and by extensive I mean 2 ho...

I usually dry roast my grasshopers. I'll definitely deep fry one of the big guys some time.
I don't know why but I love how you see the eyes through the batter.
I wonder what the nutritional value is say compared to buffalo wings?

Lockhart is fairly low traffic, and has a decent meeting hall. It IS much smaller though, and in hindsight considering that primitive is good, it makes Bastrop seem much more ideal.

I've been to Lockhart and Bastrop State Parks. Both decent, but of the two I feel Lockhart might be preferable.

At first, I was afraid this thread would be full of spoilers, which I hate, because I want to go see this movie. Now, having read all these posts, I don't even care if I go see the movie anymore- this has been entertaining enough, and didn't cost me $10 and a ruptured bladder. But you will never ge...

Bunker, thanks for the pennies! That is a lot of stuff I hadn't considered, I havent got another hunk of oak lying around, but I'll definitely take your considerations to mind. The reason it is cut through and through is because I was using a jigsaw. I'll see about using a table saw next time around...

Re: Carved a Machete handle/grip... Now What Blade to Use?
The blade is a Tramontina machete 20 inches long, and the handle is 10 inches long, made of macaranduba, one of the heaviest woods I've ever seen, with some tight cord. Just for the record, I was 17 when I made it. :D The name in the sheath means invincible in greek. Bad ass dewd!! TO remove ...

added pics. the handle is 8 1/2 inches long, the blade in it currently is 18 inches. I had been considering the gerber gator, but then i found out it has about 2 inches of tang. I must ask Gerber, WTF???

Re: Carved a Machete handle/grip... Now What Blade to Use?
Having made a couple knives, I'm wondering how you create a handle without already having a blade? Aren't you concerned that you cut it too short or would otherwise not fit your application when it comes time to assemble? I had made it to work with a full-tang surplus style machete. My plan had bee...
