Re: The All Purpose AK Thread

I'm kinda with Kutter about the AK. I have a few AR's and consider them to be semi-boutique guns (granted they are LWRC's and the cost relegates them to protected status), but my AK's, all Arsenals(SLR-107's and SGL-21's) are my "dirty" guns . This is pretty much why I went with the Arsenals. Sure,...

Re: Practical Zombie Traps

I would imagine on of the problems of making a trap that stopped Z's would be it "filling" up real quick. Take a dead fall or pit trap; eventually, probably real quick, it would fill up allowing following Z's to simply walk over the trap. Same with moats. Spike, snare, or pungi traps might be effect...

Re: Home Invasion or RAID?

One of the things that concerns me about some of the suggestions here is the idea of being able to reliably ID LEO once they break down your door without warning. I'm sure most people are far more tactically fit than I am, but as an average Joe nobody, even with 12 years military xp, I wouldn't know...

Re: what you think of some of these gun choices?

well 1 of the reasons I figure the mosin would also be a good bet would be because there are so many of them that figure in a zombie apocalypse you're going to see some of them. Not to be a butthead, but if any of your plans/preps include the words: find, scavange, loot, discover, replenish, or any...

Re: what you think of some of these gun choices?

For reliability/cost, I don't think you necessarily need to go the mosin route. I think a lot of people jump to them just because they are mentioned so often and because of the legend they are. Now, I will admit that for $100 for a heavy caliber bolt rifle it's a helluva good deal, but for @$500 you...

Yeah, those flat backed surplus mags from Aim are good( i've got @10 of them). When they were selling the individualy wrapped bulgy mags I use to buy them 20 at a time. I've never bought from What-a-country, but @ a year ago, those mags in VG condition were @$15-20, now they're @$30 which is what a ...

30 round mag shortage?

This is just a general inquiry into people's experiences/ perceptions as to the current availability of 30 rounders; specifically for AK's (it can also apply to other platforms, but I haven't seen anything change with them). My perception is that the availability of 30rnd magazines for either the 47...

Re: DUMBEST F*&@king thing you've ever heard NOT ON THE ZS F

I think one of the greatest sins commited by those games upon the fragile little minds of today's youth is convincing an entire generation that they should pick a gun that is of a popular calibur because that way you can just walk around your neighborhood and find spare ammo laying around. Everywher...

Re: hearing protection

I have to agree with Phil and Hero. Just like only having two eyes, you only have two ears. It's a lot easier to protect what hearing you have than to deal without it when it's gone. And all due respect to your military buddies, but exposing your ears to damaging levels of sound every once in a whil...

Re: BCM is a thing of Beauty!

I've tried VFG's on my ak's and my ar, liked the way they looked, but when it came to weapon handeling it just didn't "feel" right and have always ended up going back to the basic hand guards. I've got an FAB TAL 4 and really love the way it fits my hand, and have a tapco short (I know, crapco, but ...

Re: Ghillie suit for bug out bag?

It's too much weight and takes up too much space. The only reason to have it would be if you were stalking something/someone, but if your goal or intention is to just be hidden or remain unseen, simply staying still and staying quiet is the best solution. If you're planning on wearing it to bail-out...

I use to get delayed all the time too, every single time in fact. It got to the point that I just figured every time I bought a gun it would be five days before I picked it up. I finally got my CHL though and since then- no more waits for me. Now all I have to do is fill out the transfer paperwork, ...

Re: What do you want to see in Zombie Film?

I'll just list a few things about zombie films that drive me nuts so hopefully they won't appear in your film. 1. The George Romero pseudo-potitical undercurrent that pervades all his films. I dont watch zombie movies for societal commentary regardless of how well concealed. In many of his films, th...

That's funny. I was watching it too and all I could think was, "Wow, I've dug a lot of holes in my time and I've never- ever- been able to get all the dirt back in the hole."

I'm suppprised no one suggested the Tactical Tailor MAV.(And if it was suggested and I just missed it, sorry...) I was at the feed store the other day picking up some stuff for our animals. One of the old-timers helping to load my truck noticed some old shell casings in the bed and struck up a conversation. When I told him that the majority of the stuff was cheap-o russian ammo he proceeded to "school" me abou...

The only thing I can think of that would drive me off my land would probably be a wildfire, you just can't fight one of those off. Any other disaster wouldn't pose a great enough imminent threat to run me off. Floods- we don't flood here; hurricanes are relatively common, but we're far enough away f...

Re: Living out of a Hotel Prepping Ideas/Solutions

I'll agree that under the bed, even if it has a metal framed skirt on it, is a bad idea, especially for something as valuable as a rifle. All one has to do is lift the corner and shine a light in without even disturbing the bed. In one of my former lives, I managed a resort hotel in Miami Beach and ...
