Re: Honda Element BOV

A shame it was never offered in AWD, As mentioned; the vast majority were AWD, its actually quite rare to happen across a 2wd one. The single biggest impediment to softroading is the fuel tank, which is dead center between the axles and the lowest point on the whole car  It has an impressive s...

Re: Any Newbies Here Because of Coronavirus?

I've lurked for years and only post sporadically. When I do participate, though, I've never regretted it. Glad to see new traffic, new ideas, and like-minded folks! Also, silver lining...there's nothing like a crisis to convince your non-prepper friends that you aren't totally nuts. I just wish it ...

Re: Honda Element BOV

Outstanding post. A lot of very creative ideas there. The twin bed roof cargo carrier is brilliant. What kind of jerry cans are those? Are they metal or polymer? Also, can you link to exactly what twin bed frame you used? Something like that might work well on my Kia Soul. I always thought highly of...

Re: Homemade Face Masks

I think I'm going to have a custom flag made for my flagpole. Just have them screen print an image on it to make it look like a giant mask, attach green ribbons to each corner like ties and run it up beneath the Stars & Stripes on my flagpole as a reminder to people to "mask up". "Mask up and carry...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

Maine 4/3/20. 432 cases, 9 dead, 75 hospitalized, 113 recovered (including my close friend, praise be). Day two of our statewide mandatory stay at home order. Which means the second day in a row I didn't go to the store on an invented excuse just to break up the stultifying monotony of being single ...

Re: Homemade Face Masks

I found this and I'm running with it. I have no way of vaporizing hydrogen peroxide, but thoroughly dampening a mask with it and leaving it to dry out overnight has to have some disinfecting effect. Not trying to burst your bubble here but I'd hate to see you get sick because of reliance on faulty ...

Hey Everybody. I'm not any sort of pro, but when I hear about reusing masks & such, I shudder quite uncomfortably. Again, I'm not a professional. I have something like a 1/2 balaclava that I can wear. I'll probably order one of those Etsy masks or something off of (shudder) Amazon. :? I found this ...

Re: Homemade Face Masks

I made three masks today of my own design. I use material cut from HEPA vacuum cleaner bags, :words: How was the breathability? Even with N-95 masks which are designed to 95 % effective while still providing easier breathing , I still notice how much more difficult breathing is through them. I just...

Re: Homemade Face Masks

I made three masks today of my own design. I use material cut from HEPA vacuum cleaner bags, cut into 6.5" by 9.5" rectangles. I open up a small paper clip (so it forms a very elongated sideways "S") and hot glue that at the center of one of the 9.5" sides. Then I hot glue 16" sections of elastic tr...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

I was just giving an example of road closures in Maine, in reference to my statement in the first paragraph of my post, about the outbreak in the nursing home.

Sorry if that was misleading. The reporting on the vigilante driveway closure on Vinalhaven Island hasn't included pictures. Yet.

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

My beer arrived! It's not as exciting as you might think, a translucent plastic can full of, well, slightly foamy brown beer. It has a label stating the contents but other than that it could be a gallon of motor oil. The paperwork states "consume within three days of opening" and as you know I'm a ...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

Maine 3/29/20. 253 cases. Seems to be increasing by about 12 new cases each passing day. Still very low numbers comparatively, although the death toll tripled over night from one to three. Localized outbreak reported in at least one nursing home. All non-essential businesses are pretty much closed. ...

I was shocked to find plenty of toilet paper in my local Walmart today. None in the paper goods aisle, mind you, those have been completely bare for weeks. I was in the automotive section and stumbled on multiple packages in the RV supplies aisle. Now the RV specific TP is about 3 times as expensive...

Re: COVID-19 Thread

Anyone else live alone and find themselves working from home for the first time? It's an odd experience; hours stretching into days without human contact. It reminds me a bit like 9/11. I was married then, had a wife and young daughter to look after and, frankly, to share the experience with. But st...

. Other than the once-a-week grocery run and taking perishables to my elderly in-laws up the road, not much exciting happening. Hoping to keep it that way. Yep, this is pretty much what I expected for a major crisis. It might start out exciting, but once things settle down, it's generally long peri...

Re: What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

I, ah, gassed up the car again even though it was only down a quarter of a tank. No evidence I can see that any kind of fuel shortage is in the offing. But I'm just anxious in general lately and keeping the car topped off seems to help. It would be a distribution failure if that were to happen, not...
