Re: My Job, My Hell...

I always have customers come into my pharmacy and ask me where the lice shampoo is while simultaneously trying to get their head as close as they can to mine. I'm like hey I believe you please stand back. Or well that's what I want to say as I slowly back away from their infected scalp.

Re: Predicting Weather

I think that maybe I should be offended at your reference to age groups. This implies that one can assign values to people based on some inference they have regarding how long one has been alive and their intelligence. This would imply some unfairness, a condition that people are trying to eradicat...

Re: Predicting Weather

Ah just thought of this...but with those of you with young children there is an episode of Curious George that is about predicting the weather. He makes a little weather book. It was mostly like George would draw the dark gray/black clouds and then realize it rains. So then the next day when he sees...

Re: Predicting Weather

Totally going to look at all these links. Especially the ones that don't necessarily depend on state of the art tech. I've always had a passing interest in the weather especially studying history. Back in the day Key West natives didn't carry pocket watches they carried pocket barometers. Also back ...

Re: Predicting Weather

Ha ha I'm in Florida where the weather report is sunny with a chance of rain. I was thinking about investing in a good barometer for hurricanes. Honestly I didn't even look at the price. I just thought it would be interesting/possible prep gear.

I'll have to see if it is at the library. The first book was pretty good.

Re: What Bug Out foods can be frozen?

You can freeze hard cheeses. You will want to shred it first and you won't really be able to use it for salads but it still cooks great. LyraJean, Would waxing cheese be better than freezing, and have a longer shelf life? I don't know that is why I am asking. Thank you. I don't know. My dad is a ch...

Re: My Job, My Hell...

Today I had a customer who wanted to buy abreva to treat her genital herpes. Then when the pharmacist said he could not recommend that she claimed she knew more than him and he didn't know what he was talking about. But at least she didn't buy the abreva. I wonder if the reason she knew more than h...

Re: What Bug Out foods can be frozen?

Yes get a vacuum sealer like FoodSaver. It will increase the life of the food you put in the freezer by removing all the air which causes freezes burn.

Alas, I live in an apartment with no private balcony. The last time someone decided to grow a potted plant by their doorstep some of the kids set it on fire. So yeah, not growing anything right now.

My boy saw the picture and has told me that he wants to build one and will I think about it. He asks me to think about it if he thinks I will say no. You definitely HAVE to let him do it. When I was very young my father dencouraged my interest in such things. Over the years it developed into a care...

Seriously I thought both cowpox and chickenpox helps protect against getting smallpox.

I had chicken pox as a child so I'm safe as well. Although I'll need the shingles vaccination when I am older.

Re: 5 diseases that will explode post catastrophy.

Hmm, how long after your "event" do you see these diseases? Does the event reverse vaccinations, because I've had my jabs for cholera, typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis and tetanus to name a few. I suspect most of the beneficiaries of the National Health Service have had some of these too. I t...

Re: 5 diseases that will explode post catastrophy.

Got get me a large fireproof pot/container so I can at least boil water. That should help a lot. Not sure how to handle latrines yet. I have me a nice large stock pot to boil water at home in case I should have too. Which has already happened. I reckon if it came to it and we had to bug out I would ...

Re: Galaxy news radio!!!!

I read a non-prep story where a girl had a mobile radio station. She just had different locations where she could broadcast from. She did have the help of an already established radio station but maybe it could still work. That way you aren't giving away your location. Obviously if you did it this ...

Re: Odd Preps: The things you can't live without

My kid's favorite toys, if we had to bug out we wouldn't be able to bring them all. I would probably make sure we have his Curious George and his Spiderman.
