Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

I don't think its any great favor to the issuing country to be a reserve currency. This is why we no longer have a gold standard. The Triffin dilemma was documented in the 60's and some complications of the 2008 meltdown are also attributed to this - in my opinion, correctly.

Re: Long range ability

As far as glass, I just got a SWFA SS 16x for my new Savage 10FP and its pretty nice. This rifle is only for shooting paper at 300 yards +; if you want more flexibility the 10x would be a great choice. I'm no glass snob but I've also got an IOR Valdada 2.5-10x which has high-end German glass and whi...

I agree you did well with the decisions you made and very much agree with not shooting him, but I think RG is correct that the best decision by far would have been to retreat, even after subduing him though by that time I agree with your reasoning that another perpetrator would be unlikely to have s...

Re: New Barrel "break-in"

Nothing much, I do clean it all of course but I don't agree with intensive barrel cleaning procedures and there are good reasons to think such practices (as many BR shooters follow) are at best only harmless. I do want to fire at least a couple hundred rounds without failure with any fighting rifle ...

Sure get out your welding kit and 20 ton press and get right on it.

A $2500 custom built rifle would be nice, but its really not the same topic as a PTR.

I've got a Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP Riflescope with a EBR Mrad reticle mounted in Leupold rings on a BT mount. BT handguard. Magpul PRS stock. How are you liking the Viper PST? Also, does anyone know if PTR91 has fixed the issues of their rifles not eating surplus ammo? That has been fixed though I am...

Re: Arming Family Based On Military Squad?

Those are some good points Jeriah. One spin on that trap that I have engaged in is allowing myself to think that *I* could use a more specialized weapon in some circumstances, such as a DMR or precision rifle. That doesn't work well on its own as a fighting rifle, so it needs friends. Somehow this l...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

The situation in Europe is different from here. In Europe they have an immediate sovereign debt crisis. Here the situation is a little different. Its unfortunate we spent all that money when we did trying to kick-start the economy. The CDO problems hadn't finished unwinding so it was like bringing n...

Re: Do I need a bigger pistol?

It seems a lot of people are confused about the OP intent here. He is hiking. Not hunting pigs. Slinging a rifle doesn't strike me as all that practical when all I'm doing is hiking. I agree with Matt, stick with the pistol you know you can shoot well. Unless you just want a .45 LC in which case by ...

Re: Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle

As far as I know, no production rifle has ever fulfilled EVERY aspect of Coopers concept. Even the oft mentioned Steyr (as already stated in the above post) weighs in at the maximum (3.3kg) WITHOUT a scope, so that's probably another .5kg give or take. You hear/read different things but my understa...

I'll be getting a Ruger Scout soon. The Steyr is nice BUT it comes with no iron sights (which I plan to use) and has only a 5 round magazine. Wait I was under the impression the Steyr came with fold down sights. Is that incorrect? The more I see this Ruger the more I want one. Steyr Scout does have...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

The service the financial sector provides is allocation of resources. They remorselessly align capital investments in plant, equipment and inventory with demands in consumer spending. To motivate them to do this more efficiently than say, the DPRK, we reward individuals lavishly when they do this wo...

If you just want guns that look cool may as well buy airsoft replicas. That way you can leave them out on display. So, we can only but ugly guns? Re: STG 58 FAL

I think there are pretty good reasons why the British went with an LMT 308 for a DMR versus resurrecting their L1A1s. It is not so affordable but the CMMG .308 AR in the CDNN catalog for $1100 looks pretty tempting.

Re: Almost had an ND five minutes ago!

There is a reason we have FOUR rules of gun safety and not just one. The reason is that we will almost certainly fuck up one or two of them from time to time. I had a ND that was much more retarded than this near-miss. At least I knew enough to have the gun pointed in a safe direction. I'm not sure ...

Interesting that he predicts such different outcomes if Greece "storms out" rather than is pushed out. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. If they do "storm out" it would not be unreasonable to speculate that they were pushed out and agreed to make it look voluntary in exchange for some c...

I think there are way to many unknowns to make blanket statements about galactic colonization. Perhaps its already colonized and they are waiting for us, or every 50,000 years some sort of space "reaver" wipes out all spacefaring species. I'm just talking about what is likely based on the evidence ...

Frankly I do care what will happen to Earth, whether there are humans here or we have left for other planets/died out/or what have you. Our planet is somehow an unusual one, teeming with life. I feel we are intended to spread life throughout the cosmos, otherwise what a waste of a universe. (It pis...
