Re: Food Storage Discussion Thread

Upon further investigation, the filter and UV light of course are 2 totally different animals. The light will only sterilize, it won't filter it. (yes, I had a duh moment) Here is a link to a video describing the SteriPEN. BTW this does 2,000 gallons so if I pre-filtered the water myself, this...

Re: Food Storage Discussion Thread

I have always been a huge proponent of the monolithic water filters. http://shop.monolithic.com/products/just-water-ceramic-drip-filter This is what they use to filter mud puddles, 3rd world countries, down to clean drinking water. It removes most of what the others do but you also have to build yo...

Re: Food Storage Discussion Thread

I actually just remembered we also have the Katadyn Water Filters. They are the handpump style that will do 200 gallons, I haven't dug through our EDCs lately, MrNoAm reminded me of that last night. This one is similar to the ones that we have: http://www.thrivewnc.thrivelife.com/katadyn-hiker-micr...

Re: COMM Patch

We finally received our official 'green light' as a club. If someone could help get pricing for patches/stickers I would be most appreciative. I also have to figure out how to handle the sale of them, otherwise I will be paying for them myself and sending them out. I don't think is is something tha...

Re: Food Storage Discussion Thread

Since each bottle does 100 gallons and we have extra filters, I think this will take care of 'most' of our concerns. Toxic spills? I would probably find another watering hole  NoAm, I'm confident of the filter's ability to filter the water. Mine was more a functional question of mechanics. Ho...

Re: Bug Out Gear Deals (Post 'em when you find 'em) I

Thrive has a great deal on these water bottles until June 3rd The bottles retail at $31.99 each, the promo pack price of $70.99 for 4, brings them down to $17.25 a piece. I much prefer using a cup than sticking my head in the river to use a straw AND the promotion price is less than the lifestraws w...

So assuming earthquake, which is a given around here, is there a better option than my Lifestraw? I have no less that three creeks directly around me, water sources a short hike, and almost weekly rain, even in the summer. Any other water systems I need? Food is a whole different issue. I'll get to...

From those of y'all that do the 5gal bucket thing: How high can I stack them before I crush the bottom one? Each bucket is between 30-35lbs. Is this something that I should even be worried about? Really high. I've stacked paint buckets like four or five high with no consequences other than it being...

Welcome from WNC! I am sure you have found most of the info already, this does have some great links though. Depending on exactly where you are in California, the closest Chapter would be 015 in San Fran or 011 in Portland, these may not be close to you at all. There is also the Meeting Room, where ...
