Re: Do as I say, not as I do.

How the world has changed. Stopping to help a stranger in trouble is what you used do. It was so common when I was growing up, when we were alittle older and a good snow was heading in, my brother and I would hit the road in my Suburban. When we found someone that slide off the road, we'd stop and h...

Re: "100lb of potatoes in 4 sq ft"

***Bump*** Read through the thread. Interesting read. Apartment dweller here and am beginning to research how to grow some food if SHTF and I don't have to abandon my place. There is a good-sized concrete courtyard (24' wide) separating the buildings so there is very little soil area to use. Large c...

Re: ZS tree dwellers: I need palm tree trimming advice.

Prune off the lowest fronds first. Working around the tree to keep it even. One at a time until those touching your roof have been removed. Going for the look in the pic that Maldon007 is exactly what your looking for if you need to remove a lot of the fronds. Don't remove the "upright" fronds, thes...

Re: When not to convince someone to prep?

Some people that we think would be good partners for prepping could already be doing it, but their plans are to be "loners"...prepping for themselves and their family members only. Some "loners" can be pretty tight-lipped about any plans they have already made. Others that we think might be good to ...

If in a group...in my best Patrick Stewart voice, "Engage."

If alone, "Fuck You."

Each ending with one or several "Bang".

Re: Considering Male Bias in Preparation

There are 4-5 gay bars in the downtown area. For some of those guys (who I happen to be friends with), prepping would consist of a fabulous amount of hairspray. WOW. First sexual bias and now stereo typings... :o  But I know what you mean. Have had a few of those kind over my place from ...

Re: Most Likely SHTF Event

Well, my point was not really about the knowledge. That may be lost and refound in multiple ways. Rather, I was thinking about the resources needed, the hard economics of climbing the ladder up to our current civilisation. No cheap/easily gathered oil = no T-Fords = no assembly lines = no moon land...

I get it. Sarcasm. And I like it....a lot. As for prepping, we all do it. Even people who aren't members of this site. Anyone who does weekly food shopping every Friday night are prepping. Although for the short term. As for the rest. Yeah, the "superior male" is probably an endangered specie...

Re: Most Likely SHTF Event

I've thought about this myself, if there was a very large disaster, where basically the survivors would be starting over from scratch, I think it would take much longer to reach our current level of civilization/health/economy/technology than we did since we first discovered that fire. I also have ...

Hi from Florida. A fellow newbie here. I joined about 6 weeks ago and this is my 75th post. To date no body has flamed me. I haven't really noticed a lot of that going on here. Happens mostly when someone opens a thread on a subject that's been beaten to death here...a few dozen times. Using the Sea...

Need to get water/food in there ASAP. Bad way to start any scenario. OK, here's one. It's a typical foggy morning (like we had today), everyone in your family is off at work and school. It's 11am when radio reports start coming in about possible bombings in NYC and DC. Large explosions with...

Re: SoCal BOL??

I think that an off-shore island might make a decent place, for the short term, to go and wait to find out how bad things are going to get. That is along as you have your own way to get there...and leaving again. It could be a problem to think that just because you were able to make it there, that y...

Re: wouldn't Gov't nuke us?

A Tomahawk cruise missile with a W80 adjustable yield warhead (5 to 150 KT) would be a better choice. Easier and quicker to deploy then any of our other missile systems. Tomahawks could be launched by any number of military platforms; aircraft, ships, subs, mobile land vehicles. Also, the U.S. maint...

I purchased a 9mm of this S&W a few months ago. Thought it was a good buy at $300 and still do. I'm pretty happy with the gun. I use it for my "bedroom gun". Nothing like 16 rounds of "You picked the wrong house buddy" **Dave...great report. Would liked to have read it before I bought mine...

Re: What would you do if there was a limited nuclear exchange?

Check out the book by Whitney Strieber and James Kunetka called "Warday" (1983). Although I thought the story was a little 'soft' in damage and how the U.S. fared (also how our "friends" reacted and came to our "aid"), I found it a really interesting read. Gets the mind thinking. Premise...limited n...

You asked people to "pick it apart", and some did.
If the replies weren't what you wanted, maybe you needed to ask the question in a different way?
