Re: WWYD: In the PAW, you walk into an abandoned house...

That's because the early bird loaded with buckshot! This is where my PAW plan comes into effect. I send one of my minions in after the chocolate. If it's a trap, he was expendable, but if not, he brings it to me and I redistribute a candy bar to him and all his 198 friends. The beer was skunked, and...

Re: BOB - Gold and Silver

i keep 2 1/10th oz gold and 10 silver dimes in a pocket pack that gets transferred when i change pants. the reason for the gold is in case i get caught by the bad guys and need to bribe them to let me go. admittedly those 2 small coins wouldn't be much of an incentive but they're all i can afford. ...

Re: Quick, defend yourself: What do you have on hand RIGHT now?

Direct front is a three-foot brass coal-carrier, six feet away. The kitchen knives and my ogre-like room mate are ten feet out, and my car houses my ALICE frame and two Super-Uber police batons and an AXE flamethrower waiting to be made. In other words, I'm FUBAR unless I throw one of my roommates v...

Re: Shaving?

Thankfully I would only need to shave about once per week in a PAW, so normal disposable 20pk would last me long enough to figure out whether it was worth it to continue doing so. If I grew it out, I'd probably have to start oiling the beard, combing, etc.

Re: Questions for Military members

Shame bonanacrom... I signed on because I have that hero complex. Most of the guys from the Deep South (in my unit anyway) would bug out before they asked us to fire on civilians. When they did, even more would bug out. Yes, there will be some who stay and do the dirty deed, but not this guy. [/patr...

Re: On the Road

A suggestion for roads/RRs: I don't know about SERE school, but I was taught to move along roads/trails. Get deep enough into cover that you cannot be seen from said road or trail. The area is usually good to move on, and provides solid navigation (if you don't have a map/compass) and should you hav...

Re: A word on Quik-Clot

I stand corrected.

But in my misanthropic view, more of those sales will probably go to soccer moms and desk jockeys who don't know how to man up and incline the head while pinching the bleed.

Re: my boyfriend thinks im crazy

I have to deal with friends/family who call me GHB "the psycho bag" because I won't go anywhere without being <2 min from my bag. I put up with it, and I explain that I am constantly training myself in First Aid and battlefield medicine. I remind them of how many terrible accidents occur daily durin...

Re: A word on Quik-Clot

Thanks for the input. No, I'm not a Corpsman, I'm an infantry Marine, but I'm pursuing DMOC and IAOC (i think that's spelled right) so that I will have the same training as a corpsman. I searched around a bit, saw things like "SPorts Q/C" and "Nosebleed Q/C" like you need a hemostatic for a noseblee...

Every bag needs accessories. I've been shopping LAPG for a few things, but they've got a buy 4 get 1 free on all the patches. Thought this was rather appropriate.

Re: Stupid AR-15 Questions

Aperture sights (AKA peep sights) are indeed designed for different ranges. The small aperture is for 100-550m (the military designated Max. Eff. Range for a man-sized target) for an M16. Shorter barrels will mean reduced accuracy, keep this in mind. Also, Have you BZO'd (zeroed) your sight yet? You...

Blood drives are good too. Should be easy to organize, i believe you can call the red cross to send a blood bus. At least, they do it all the time on base. Just another suggestion.

Re: Dual bug-out bags......

My plan is to have a small bag I call a LEEST (Lightweight Escape and Evade Scavengers Toolbag) whos e sole purpose is to give me the tools and food to get from wherever I am to my main pack. My main pack is more like a true B.O.B. with equipment to survive more longterm with a group.

Re: A word on Quik-Clot

Like I said, I saw a lot of quik-clot on BOBs and whatnot, so I figured i'd put it out there, since most people haven't had to use theirs. (hopefully) I agree about the combat gauze, but nm y philosophy (as of now anyway) is bandage, pressure wrap, tourniquet.

1st off, greetings from another Assaultman! Good to see another lucky demo-doggie not getting to do his job. Second, enjoy the vacation. Just got back from mine, fresh tan and all. I agree about the SAPI/Pack thing, but i have this thing about getting drilled in the back. My unit (hint, we're the ne...

A word on Quik-Clot

I see a lot of BOBs/FAK/IFAKs stocking quikclot, so I thought I might drop in my limited knowledge on use and hazards. Personally, when my MedBag is finished, I won't be stocking QC. Here's why. There are procedures for use which limit it's effectiveness, namely: 1. Do Not use on ANY thorasaic, faci...

Re: Military & Shotguns?

Agreed Paladin. I found a few articles like this and it resulted in our having Mossberg 500As and the Saiga 12 gauges. As much as we gloat about M16s and M4s, I have to believe the Russians feel the same way about their AKs and Saigas. Too bad we don't all speak the same language. I read these and ...

Re: Military & Shotguns?

The current stance, or, lack of stance is a far more efficient means of accomplishing the same task. Officially, as long as they can get the job done, it makes little difference what weapon is used. Some commanding officers may care, but that is probably where the caring ends. If a soldier wants to...

LFG in Coastal North Carolina

Greetings! Take two, they're small! My name is not common knowledge, so just call me Doc Torr. I am not actually a doctor, nor even a full fledged medic, but I am currently trained in basic and advanced battlefield first aid (useful, huh?) and am continuing toward EMT and Shock-Trauma/Field Surgery ...
