Need help deciding on EDC items for personal defense.

Aside from my cell phone and a small Swiss army knife, I don't carry much else with me (that is to say, on my person) on a daily basis. Since I go too many places each week where CCWs are not allowed (work, bars, etc.), I rarely bring my .357 with me. Heck, I only even carry it in the car a few days...

Re: Handgun for my Mom - Opinions needed.

Absintheur- Yup, my mom and I agreed that we'd be going to the range for a couple of hours the same day she buys the gun, and after we go over some basic gun safety/gun handling practice. In addition to the knowledge that I will try to pass on, I am also going to try and encourage her heavily to tak...

Re: Handgun for my Mom - Opinions needed.

I got my wife a Ruger SP-101 in stainless. It shoots 38 special or 357 magnum. 38 spl. is a pretty low recoil round. The pistol also has hogue rubber grips. These really make the gun for ladies. A little weighty but not bad. (like posted before weight overcomes some of the recoil.) It's super simpl...

Handgun for my Mom - Opinions needed.

Ok fellas. I've finally convinced my mom that she needs to get a gun. She lives alone, and also makes many long car trips by herself due to her job. Since she isn't a gun nut like most of us (myself included 8)) , buying one gun for home defense and one for car/concealed carry is out of the question...

Re: Strange Food combos

Beer mixed with gatorade Ok that is nasty, what kind of beer does one mix with gatorade? Whatever's on hand, my friend. Whatever's on hand. 8) It was more an invention born of neccessity...we were on the beach fishing in 100-degree weather a few years back. We had drank all our water and all that w...

Re: Which machete? Want a strong affordable cold steel? What use

I'd say it can do anything a good knife can do if you keep the edge on it (except for precision stuff like whittling, etc.). Cold Steel is supposed to be a really good brand. I think anything made by them should be top notch. I've been wanting to buy one of their knives for hog hunting, but instead ...

Re: Huntin' for Dino's

I tell you what though...I would be the baddest dude in all of Texas if I could somehow get my hands on a pair of Velociraptor-skin boots. 8) Especially if you could keep the claw on there. Holy crap! It'd be like that one bad guy from Road House with the razor blade in his boot...only like 1...

Re: Huntin' for Dino's

Velociraptors: Ideally, I would be far, far away from these critters when I popped them. I figure my .30-06 would work fine, especially with the 180-grain rounds I use. However, if I wasn't able to hunt them from the relative safety of a distant tree-stand or well-armored ground blind...I would want...

Re: A re-take on an old thread: If you can have one, what?

Remington 870 Express (used) with a synthetic stock. Then I'd spend the remaining $175 or so on ammo, cleaning supplies/spare parts, and a bigger magazine. I'd also saw off the barrel to 18" myself and save the extra money that some people spend on buying a "combat" or "home defense" shotgun. :D

Re: Attempted Break-In: What I Learned (LONG)

What was in that black bag he threw? Ya know...I was so weirded out by the whole thing that I didn't even want to know. I figured if it was drugs or money or something illegal then I probably didn't want to take possession of it, even just for a moment to look. Stupid, I know, but I was a paranoid ...

Attempted Break-In: What I Learned (LONG)

I am fortunate in that I have not had many experiences where my safety was compromised. I sure as heck can't compare with some of the things you guys have had happen to you. However, I did have one important experience years ago that taught me some valuable lessons, which I will mention after I bore...

Re: Cleaning and Maintenance of your firearms

I apologize if this got double posted somehow (I'm new  ) but I have a question regarding barrel cleaning. I always run a brush through and then patches until they come out spotlessly clean. Is this neccessary, or should I just pass through a few solvent-soaked patches and not worry about i...
