Re: Motorcycles

Great photos of some really cool bikes, thanks. It would be nice to live where I could I ride 365 days a year. I live rural, gravel roads and winter is not enjoyable to ride. For a single person who knows how to ride, a bike could be a great BOB. Also on bike one can get a side car. I have had two o...

Re: Frequency counter? What would you recommend?

I have two;

A Sinometer VC2000 (bench model) and a MFJ - 886 (field use)

The MFJ, I also use it to tune one of my antenna analyzers.

Re: Talk me out of a revolver

The advantage of the Airweight is the weight. A thought is that a CCW pistol is not used for plinking but to carry. It is the day in and day out carry that a heavier pistol gets to be more likely left at home. So the trade off is very light, but heavy in the recoil.

I made a couch and chair with pallet material.

Those out building are really great looking.

Re: Working the action of a lever gun?

Jacketed rounds are fine if it is a round nosed or flat nosed bullet. The issue is with pointed bullets in the tube. I was the timer at a Cowboy action shoot and a person with a Henry rifle had a round in the magazine discharge. Yes it is a very isolated incident. The shooter did get a bit of metal...

Re: Why You Should Not Use Reloads in a Defense Gun

can I still use them in my Offense Gun? Interesting term. I notice is does come up more and more. If you have a attorney friend, ask them about offense. IIRC, there has never been a question about the right to defense. I am not arguing with you but it is something to think about. Taking the fight t...

Re: Working the action of a lever gun?

Bottle neck cartridges always chamber easier than a straight wall one when chambering. Using a bullet with a cannelured and a crimp helps. Tube magazines generally requires a blunt nose bullet, but not necessary. Some old Remington had a spiral twist to the tubular mag allowing the use of other bull...

Re: Talk me out of a revolver

Good guns need good homes too. Lots of great firearms out there. If you reload, that offers some great options to what ever you choose. Going used, the best buy for the money is a deciding factor, unless it is some extremely exotic high cost round. There has been a lot of good choices offered. Mod 1...

Re: NO body armour for me

My thoughts, The more you carry of something means the less you carry of another item.

Is body armor worth the extra weight as compared to other items that could be carried instead?

My first thoughts is no. It depends on the likely hood of need VS the other things I could be carrying.

Re: Marines Get to Pick Glocks in Preference to to 1911s.

Das Sheep, The other option is a Glock in .45 acp. My two favorite Glocks are in .45acp and 10mm. The discussion on 9mm = .45acp can go for ever. There are also DA 1911s. I think the big issue will be training and how will what ever they choose work with those who use it. H&K has some nice stuff too...

Re: Marines Get to Pick Glocks in Preference to to 1911s.

You also have to still use pretty low velocity hard ball in the fancy 1911's and the round count leaves a lot to be desired. The Glock is also a lot easier to clean and maintain, and has no safety. It's also worlds lighter, which is important since its a backup you won't use 99.9% of the time. Gloc...

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

So, my question is..... Could I load the .223 brass with pressures of the 5.56? I have looked at some reloading books while I helped one of the 005 guys organize his makespace and the book didn't say anything. I really don't think it would make any difference. Go by what is in your reloading book ....

Yes. His verdict - eroded chamber.
Offered to replace the cylinder if I wanted. Said that was about the only fix as reaming out the cylinder would just likely result in case ruptures.

Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

Procyon, Have you taken your pistol to a gunsmith? I was shooting about 500 rds per month. After each session I would shoot some Jacketed .357. The thoughts was more on lead fouling the barrel. Sticking in the chambers can be or should be easily checked. Smith 28's are great pistol. I am more a Smit...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

I have shot a lot of .38 Sp out of a .357. I never noticed that, maybe it is a cleaning issue. The recommendation if a person where to buy one pistol (autos where not like they are today) get a .357. For plinking fun .38 as cheap and fun to shoot. 9mm was considered a premium round back then. If a p...

Re: Why You Should Not Use Reloads in a Defense Gun

That's not what I asked. Has there been a case where an otherwise good shoot was judged criminal, and where the ammunition was a/the main contributing factor? Conversely, has there been a case where the use of factory ammunition saved someone from going to jail? Massad Ayoob says a lot of stuff, mu...

Re: Why You Should Not Use Reloads in a Defense Gun

Have handloads ever been the factor that turned a good shoot into a murder/manslaughter? Because I hear this repeated a lot, but it seems to be the kind of thing that's never actually happened... In every shooting there are/can be criminal and civil repercussions. A person can do everything legally...

Re: 2m and 7cm bicycle antenna

I think that would get extra points on field day. For a 2m/ 440Mhz they could have gone with a MFJ mobile antenna, lighter and more compact. Radio looks like a Yaesu FT-857D, maybe the antenna is a multi band. I have two Little Tarheel for my ICOM 7000. Pretty slick rig. Antennas are always a issue ...

Ignore the antique chicken-wing stuff. Lean forward like a boxer, just like you're shooting an AR, elbow down-ish. http://www.rem870.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/shotgun_shooting_stance.jpg Modify as needed, but there's no reason to have your elbow out unless you're shooting KD-qual with a shooti...
