Re: Shelter in Place in a Hospital

I agree with pyratemine, that the SIP plan should have even more of its own supplies, if and as possible. And I also agree that the plan for GTFO when that becomes necessary should also be supplied for: I work in a khakis and button-up shirt environment - depending upon her position in the hospital,...

Re: Pest Prevention and Control

Any opinions/experiences with diatomaceous earth as an arthropod control? If I remember right, that is a dessicant (dehydrates/dries out the bugs)? I think it's used as a filler or bonding agent in some wettable powders. Haven't used it straight as a pesticide myself- let us know how it works if yo...

Re: Vibram Five Fingers (VFF)

Got my KSOs last week. Making them my "everyday" shoes. I'm working a lot of muscles I don't normally. And I'm discovering a lot of imperfections in the floor at work I've never noticed before. :) Interestingly, my running style (I've only jogged down a hallway with these) automatically changed to ...

I have only used the 3M branded version of that product, in the context of veterinary medicine (support wraps, wound and postsurgical bandaging, and IV splints) on dogs and cats. The 3M sticks to itself just fine . I offer one caution on its use though: It seems to tighten under certain circumstance...

Official death toll as of now: 4 I can't imagine that won't be higher as there are at least 3 critically burned (3rd degree over >50% of body). Homes completely destroyed: 38 The main gas line that ruptured was 60 years old. The first responding fire truck had to stop approaching when the engine's w...

I was not saying all women are weak. Just my gf. Sounds like you need a new girlfriend. I've always been the jar opener in my family. Lol... Meh, I've kind of resolved myself to the fact that any girl I date will probably have the strength of a baby. That is one's curse for being attracted to petit...

Re: Fruit trees and Bananas?

Check with a local community college, or university extension. Many of them have courses for "master gardeners" and other shorter or more specific courses for the community about smaller topics. Even if you don't want the courses, you can frequently find really good information from people who live ...

FYI: On saturday, I stepped on a screw in a board while wearing my Treks out @ the range. I definitely felt it, (ouch) and immediately stripped off my VFFs and socks, but couldn't find any blood or holes, and I seem fine, still. Yowza. Glad you're ok. I haven't done that yet. Re: Prepping your "comfort" skills

Talking with a liberal (caution, exploding heads possible) on non-political issues might make for a good mind game - to strengthen your world view or at least validate your world view.... Actually, that shouldn't be out of the comfort zone of anyone on ZS, considering: ZS is where rabid republicans...

Re: Prepping your "comfort" skills

Very nice post and very good ideas. A psych class I took once gave something similar as an assignment: "Do something out of the social norm (but nothing illegal or dangerous)." The example the teacher gave the class was one student that was in an elevator turned around to face the rest of the people...

I noticed that only one of the horsemen looks like he's riding astride, and the others are sidesaddle. Is that common for those guys?

Re: Zombocolypse cell phone?

That's pretty cool, and has me suspecting that the journalists (the CNN writer or the Engadget blogger or both) have at least read on this site.

Also, the ultra-low-power-draw phone they were talking about is a good idea.

Some (but not all) of the chapter forums are limited as to who can post in them. Send a PM to one of the chapter officers (their names are listed as the Moderators for that chapter forum right under the topic title.) and they can give you access into the forum.
