Re: Taurus, why so much hate?

I have a Millenium Pro in .45 and I love it. It is a 3rd generation of the series, and I think Taurus finally worked out all the bugs. The earlier versions had all kinds of problems, cracked frames, excessive ftf, mags falling out, the whole lot. 3rd gen seem to be "right". I needed a compact carry ...

Re: shotgun for arond $200

The H&R shotguns are good, solid, (and as far as i can tell) reliable. I bought a pardner 12ga pump at a pawn shop for $100 last year, cut the barrel back to 18 1/2", and got a youth stock for it. I have taken it out to the range several times, it has fired everything from #8 shot to 000 buck to slu...

Re: First hours of an outbreak...

Ok, I'll jump in. I own a fairly solid buiilding, used to be a warehouse. built back in the days when concrete was the preferred building material. 3 doors, all steel, and a rollup door. Good against general rioting or zombies, bad if the militia decides to come knockin'. All the ground floor window...

Re: Office Bug out Gear?

As I commute to work every day, my BOB is in the back of my truck, less than 100' away. So I dont feel a need to have a really comprehensive kit at the desk. That being said, I can envision times when I can't get to the truck for one reason or another, so I do have a few things nearby while at work....

Re: Mom's Journal of the Zombie Years

I have just managed to catch up on the story, having started it day before yesterday. All I can say is WOW. Kathy, you have a fantastic writing style - I am completely hooked.

But now I have to wait?!!? Ohboy.

I am sure it will be worth it.

Re: What use(s) do the cell phone have?

Just FYI, many cell towers (especially those in aread that get severe weather) have backup generators. Thats why a few weeks ago cell service continued for millions of people in the Northeast US, even when electricity and phone lines went down. For the short term at least, cell is the most reliable ...

Re: earthquake swarms neath yellowstone caldera

The odds of Yellowstone going during my lifetime are amazingly slim. But then again, the odds of someone winning the lottery are amazingly slim, and that happens every week. ...uh oh. Living in the Southeast, I would have time (probably) to bug out to the south. How far south, and what the heck I wo...

Re: Road rage, driver a few cars back in traffic goes berserk.

+1 on the great scenario! I think if I was in this situation, I would try to get my truck (i drive an suv, sorry) out of the way if possible. If not, I have my trailer hitch, and like eugene and the others, would attempt to diable the guy. And then wait calmly, cellphone in one hand, ccw in the othe...

Re: Surviving In a Castle.

I would love to actually have a castle to defend. As it is, I am currently stuck with an apartment. Not the best of defensible positions. My workplace, however, started life as a concrete warehouse, and would only require a minimum of effort to make it pretty much impregnable to the roving hordes. O...

Re: How screwed would you be...

interesting thread (sorry to gravedig) I like where everyone is going; there is the direct "I grab this and this and this", which is important to think about; and the "survival is not a kit" group. I hope to think that I fit in with both groupings. Yes, I have a nice selection f kit in my BOB, which...

Re: 5 Years into the PAW...Places people might not have looted

Agent Black, not trying to step on toes, you are right, it will be a mess. However, I think on my personal list of paw catastrophe's, nuclear power plants are pretty low on my list. Yes, in the low-probability-event that one melts down, there would be a radiation leak, but you know nuclear plants do...

Re: Inauguration Day Attack: January 20, 2009.

I wouldn't be concerned at all in this situation, since I WILL BE IN D.C. working that day. I wont be concerned, because I wont BE. Continuing the thought experiment, lets say I am in the area, but survive the initial blast and radiation. Its pretty simple. One of two options will exist: 1)I can get...

Re: What did you get for Christmas that is a PAW Prep Item?

As I am an old geezer, I didnt get anything except gift cards. The ones for the great satan ie: Walmart were especially helpful in prepping. Bought a Coleman 2 burner stove and a nice selection of ammo.

I spent a little money on myself as well. CX4 storm FTW.

Re: Car boot/trunk survival

Interesting. Well, since my BOB resides in the trunk, I would be in pretty ok shape. Assuming I could move and get to my kit, a few hours of working on the rear seat wall with a hacksaw, and I would be out. (AND PISSED OFF!) If it was someone elses car, and no kit, I have no idea. I carry a multitoo...

] well if you watched population zero, in 5 years with no one minding the nuclear reactors they go critical and everything "topside" is hot, so if your not underground your'e screwed anyway....THE QUESTION IS MOOT!! Um, no. At least not in the western world. In the states, and especially since...
