Re: Armed Felon in neighborhood

What kind of violent felony are we talking about here? My apartment is in the poor side of town, and if the cops come a calling, you can be relatively sure that it is for domestic violence or cooking meth. It seems that half of the domestic violence cases are just one spouse throwing a plate and th...

Re: Rapid Military Takeover WWYD

Domestic coup? I just don't think I could make myself gun down some poor Lance Corporal who was told by his chain of command to man a checkpoint or conduct a security patrol. I would be more apt to offer the poor, sweaty kid a Coke and regale him with stories about how much harder Parris Island was ...

Re: Self Reliance and Natural Testosterone Production

I think it's a bit of a no-brainer that if you do the things in your list, you'll be more healthy. Whether or not this has anything to do with testosterone production is a separate question, I think. I would add that if people followed the 'list of 10' advice, the massive market for maintenance pha...

Did not go, or more precisely, has not yet gone. I think my buddy is still interested, but after the initial "That would be great! I'll call you and we'll get together!" I haven't heard anything. I see the guy fairly regularly, no need to continue to ask if he's interested (because if I have to keep...

Re: Ruger LCR ok for new/inexperienced shooters?

Good food for thought about the lethality of pistols That totally jives with my experience responding to pistol GSWs. With the exception of suicides, I've only responded to one pistol shooting that resulted in the person DRT - - bad guy headshot his girlfriend and instantly killed her, LEO shot the...

Re: Advice for Future FireFighter/Paramedic

I am a lot less nervous about having to touch a patient for assessments or put an EKG / 5-lead on someone. Putting your hands on a stranger is (in my opinion) the single hardest barrier to overcome when you're a new EMT. As soon as you get comfortable with invading somebody's space, you'll have a l...

Re: What kind of cash to keep on hand?

Ten ones, two fives, two tens, and three twenties for every hundred put aside? I go with 3 - $20 2 - $10 and 4 - $5 for every $100 in my emergency stash. Having emergency cash in the house or on your person when you're traveling is major peace of mind for me. I would honestly pack rat cash like one...

Re: Flint Lock Rifle Build FINISHED, NEW PICS!

That is magnificent work. Wild to think that back in the day that's how all rifles were made - - painstakingly by hand. I honestly still can appreciate the modern, soulless, clone rifles cranked out by the tens of thousands in factories, but if the thought of the craftsmanship and love that went int...

I simply could not care less what other people do. Right there! That's the answer, right there. Ditto. Wear whatever you like. If part of my unremarkable service in the USMC ensured the freedom of my fellow citizens to exercise poor fashion sense, then so be it. About the only time I notice a perso...

It usually helps if you are able to give us a little input as far as your current level of training, the number of people you might be treating out of said kit, and what level of 'first aid' you envision yourself trying to address. Each of those variables can make a big difference as far as what typ...

S&W offered to replace all the original Hartford M&Ps with a newer version at little or no cost, which they did and Hartford immediately traded all the new M&Ps to Glock for new G22s. This info comes from a family member in the Hartford PD. The official list at the start of this thread shows Hartfo...

Sounds like you're enjoying the EMS side of things and approaching it with a real sense of enthusiasm. Excellent! The modern fire service has been dragged (sometimes kicking and screaming) into EMS and we're in it full-stop. I don't know any area departments (career or volunteer) who don't have EMS ...

Re: .223 semiautomatic rifle in the car...

What about the PLR-16 from Kel Tec? It's technically a "Pistol, Long Range" but uses the same .223 bullet as the rest (at a reduced velocity due to a very shortened barrel). It can take larger capacity magazines, as well. I'm not saying I think this is a good idea or a bad one, just curious as to p...

Yes, I realize that this is a one-time situation, but honestly walking through an almost empty store gave me a very strange ominous feeling. In Indiana it is legal. Your thoughts? See Mikeyboy's post. I can't imagine a scenario short of a full blo...

Unless your intent is that the NYPD should be able to engage and discisively reduce platoon sized military elements, unsupported. In which case - you will likely meet a lot of resistance. Indeed. Urban military operations against an entrenched, well-armed, well-trained enemy with good coms is out o...

So they had pagers, but somehow couldn't use phones, payphones, or physically communicate with people in person? Back then when someone was out and about and on the road the only way to get ahold of them was to page them. If they didn't have a pager and they'd left their house or work for the eveni...

Gotta echo what others have said. I've lost count of the amount of steel cased 5.56 / .223 I've fired. Never had such a problem, nor do I know of any other who have had such a problem.
