Re: What is your faviorite Defensive Pistol Caliber

After WW2 all military calibers were banned for civilian own and use. Including the police. In most nations. Hence the reason 9mm Mak was common in some nations. Also why 38super was so popular for shooting competitions. Other wise the German police would have carried Lugers in 9mmp for the next 25...

Re: What is your faviorite Defensive Pistol Caliber

I voted for .45 auto because that's what I carry. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to carry a .40 or 9mm with self-defense rounds. A .357 or .44 magnum speaks for itself as a man-stopper. Long story short, nearly any caliber above .32 has an option that's a viable, dependable self-defense round...

Re: St. Louis Grand Jury Decision... pending

The events since last August in Ferguson are a symptom of much larger issues in america and a wider gap between social groups. It is important in the preparation world to pay attention to these events, and any thing that comes out of it. And you are right on the money, half of the problems are caus...

In my layman understanding they would be able to overload transformers and cause them to burn, replacement would took years.

They are still innocent until they plead guilty at that point they are proven guilty. No, they're not "proven" guilty if they plead guilty to something they didn't do because of coersion by police or prosecutors, which is increasingly commonplace. When they plead and subsequently get convicted they...

Re: Mumbai meets Midwest - is this worth continuing?

It is fiction, now is this any more plausible than most of Chuck Norris movies short answer is NO but it is entertainment. Now do I foresee this tread being gone soon answer is YES simply ZS is not a place where such stereotyping is condoned nor looked favorably. My theory is we are all or at least ...

It depends on scenario and what is the most likely danger for one to face for example in Vermont during this months blanket, hand/body and foot warmers gloves and hats are must in the car, also tea candles, lighter, matches, flares, some water and dried food( protein bars etc.) knife and pen and pape...

Nope, in reality people first wait on those whose job is to take care of the problem until problem is in their front yard literally.

Re: Mumbai meets Midwest - is this worth continuing?

By adding stereotypes to the character he comes off as flat. You're making him too "bad" and therefore not believable. I feel like I'm watching Team America all over again. Hey some of us old enough to remember B production movies from 80-s even blockbusters from that decade had one dimensional cha...

It should be noted that the author went back eight months later, revisited the topic and then seemed to contradict himself while insisting that his original conclusion was correct: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/12/foghorn/three-reasons-an-assault-rifle-is-better-than-a-handgun-for-home-defe...

Re: St. Louis Grand Jury Decision... pending

You have to understand very simple concept like innocent until proven guilty Innocent people in this country routinely plead guilty to things they've never done or never would do, because they lack the resources to pay for a proper legal defense and unscrupulous proscecutors routinely "throw the bo...

Re: How crazy will people get and how long will it take

How long is going to take depends on the multitude of the factors, first depends what it is the "event", next depends on the size of the place where you are and general attitude I can tell you from former Yugoslavia point of view it can be very safe and organized place if local govt. is capable of o...

Re: How crazy will people get and how long will it take

Well, we do have some historical cases to look at. Defeat in WW1 and the Great Depression drove the German people off the rails and into the arms of some really fucked up people. Time: 15 years. Yugoslavia pretty much fell to ethnic cleansing, rape, and death camps almost overnight when it broke up...

Re: How crazy will people get and how long will it take

Honestly, I'd expect people to go "tribal" pretty quick. In every shtf situation I've studied so far, large, diverse populations tend to splinter along ethnic, linguistic and cultural lines. The former Yugoslavia is a great example; Sarajevo went from being a cosmopolitan melting pot to being a fra...

Re: St. Louis Grand Jury Decision... pending

Maybe we should work on an "Essential Preparations/Gear Checklist" for Rioting/Looting/Civil Unrest. That would be both on topic and relevant to the topic of discussion at hand, as well as reflect upon the STL issue (that is local to soooooo many of us here at the ZS forum.) Obviously, all of the b...
