Re: Gripes about gun stores

The gun store counter has two sides. For every goofy "gun store clerk" story someone talks about, I'll match it or trump it with a goofy customer story. When did retail sales become a big dick contest? ...because you just made it one? My point is still valid, however. Just because you(no one in par...

Re: Article: Setting Up a Home Defense Pistol

Macon, Revolvers still have as many issues as they solve if we are talking about the bad guy coming in contact with the gun. I think we are making a mountain out of a mole hill as far as that subject goes though, so no big deal either way. Doc, I think stating that a carbine is "the best solution" i...

Re: Value of military training?

There is much value to mil training, but it has to be put in its proper perspective. Compared to someone who has no formal training, a GI will shine. However, as it's been stated already, the training you receive in basic is designed to make you an acceptable shooter, not a good one. This training i...

Re: Report Raises Concern About Glock Handguns

One person stating they are having problems isn't data. Police departments say crazy shit all the time to push for shiny new equipment. Take the PD in St Louis. 10 years ago they melted down their Remington 870's and bought a bunch of Berretta PCC's because they gave them a tactical advantage again...

They use CCI Blazer to test fire their pistols at the factory and have been for a while.

I think this is a QC issue.

Re: Article: Setting Up a Home Defense Pistol

Although I wouldn't do that to my HD gun, there are a couple of points that need to be addressed, IMHO. There was a comment insinuating that a longer barrel increases the risk of it being pushed out of battery. This applies to many pistols that have a slide/barrels that extend beyond the dust cover ...

The only difference between my HD pistol and a pistol i'd EDC is the addition of an X300 or a U boat. Sometimes I'll add a + 2 OEM mag.

Insert wisecrack about "tier 1 operators". :awesome:  Yeah, but then we would have to explain what that is, the difference between "mission" and "requirement", test and evaluation protocols and other topics that we don't like to discuss around here. The last time those subjects were broached, ...

Re: Where should you mount a vertical foregrip?

I think one reason that the VFG has become less popular recently (without the history lesson) is the fact that tape switches are much more durable and reliable than they used to be. Weather you have a 7 inch rail or longer, you can put the light where you want and activate the light how you want . I...

Re: 9mm vs. .40 S&W, same platform--go.

I like .40. However, it does recoil differently then 9mm and no one will debate this. For me, this means to achieve the same performance I can get with, say, a G19, I go with the bigger pistol in .40. (Ex G22, MP .40) In my opinion, any possible advantage the .40 brings to the table is nullified if ...

Re: The best RDS for SHTF. Is your opinion the same?

I'll agree that the Eo in NVG mode is easy to see through dual tubes without much fuss or cocking of the head. Using that in conjunction with IR flood is a viable TTP. Of course, I generally use the IR laser, so my RDS of choice becomes less relevant at that point.

Re: The best RDS for SHTF. Is your opinion the same?

I've never thought of Aimpoint vs Eo as a debate. The pluses and minuses of each are clear and undeniable with no room for actual debate. The "debate" starts when feelings, or what someone "likes more" enters into the subject. If the individual can TRULY take advantage of the capabilities that the E...

Kyle Lamb is a pretty laid back dude, really. Vickers, not so much. It was his way or the highway. I actually perf...

Re: New-ish to Handguns. Advice?

I think in the long run you'd find the 17 a better performer. However, I don't think the difference would be earth shattering. Longer sight radius won't make the pistol more accurate, but due to the increased length, it will mean a gun that's a little more forgiving and will make it "easier" to shoo...

The gun store will want to sell it for what you want get for it. Avoid them.

I'd send the Sig in and have it converted to standard DA/SA if that's even possible. Then I'd run it like I was at MISS.

Re: What's a good handgun for a beginner?

"Felt recoil is subjective" I agree. Growing up, a friend of the family had a scar between his eyes. He explained that when in OTS, he shot the GI 1911 and it hit him in the face. Although I can't wrap my head around that, that's his story. Conversely, the first pistol my then girlfriend ever shot w...

Re: Race pistols and SHTF

One of the primary advantages of the G34/35 pistols is that the longer barrel/sight radius gives you an extremely shootable package that is more forgiving of error. Of note, however, when you attach the RDS, you lose some of that advantage as sight radius will become Irrelevant. This is why, trend w...
