Re: How to Protect Yourself From Violent Crime

I am iffy on the gun store idea honestly. It really depends on the store and you. It is not a blanket thing. And remember you are talking about bringing violent people to someone's place of business. They most likely would not mind helping someone in trouble, but you have to think carefully about wh...

Re: How to Protect Yourself From Violent Crime

The only thing I take exception to is the advice to go to a police station if you are being followed. In my part of the country police stations are not manned by armed police at all times. Generally what I see at police stations in my area are receptionists or clerks behind armored glass. They gener...

Re: How to Prepare Against a Mumbai Style Attack

A lot of posters in this thread are confusing how one should fight in the event they get caught in a terrorist (or active shooter) attack. There are, very basically, three actions you can take in a gun fight. You can attack, you can defend, or you can retreat. Attacking is simply moving towards the ...

Re: Walmart Long Gun Shopping for the PAW

Something with a tube magazine I can top up as I shoot, I haven't seen a Walmart sell spare detachable mags in years. The ones around here still carry 10/22 magazines. Sometimes they have the 25rd mags. Finding ammo for it is still tough. I don't see .22lr being a good option for anything these day...

Re: Purpose made defensive weaponsthat don't look the part?

The Cold Steel City Stick is very stout. They now have a version with a crook/pistol grip top that looks a bit more utilitarian then the original. I added a better tip to mine to make it more non slip.

Re: Active Shooter Defense

What I would do depends on a lot of things. If I am at a location with my wife and child and I hear shooting, but do not see the shooter I am getting them out and calling 911. This is regardless of whether I am armed or not. If I am at work (unarmed hospital security) and I hear shots, but do not se...

Re: Give a thought to us Brits

I will go ahead and recommend contacting BASC for information on firearms ownership and legal ways to get training and practice in the UK. The Field Sports UK channel on YouTube is a good way to see wha sort of firearms are available over there. You can get a lot more than you think.

Re: Truck gun. Shotgun or rifle

Doc Fab had a very good point about adding a micro dot sight to your current ccw. If such a thing is possible whith what you are using now that is what I would look into. Most handguns can shoot accurately to much further distances then most shooters are able to use them. I have shot my .40 S&W M&P ...

Re: Weapons-UK (Archery & Knives)

Firearms are simply a much, much more effective self defense tool than bows are. As elegant and attractive as a bow is, it's not the weapon for home defence. That would be the crude, noisy, but brutally effective shotgun. A shotgun certificate is very easy to obtain, easier than a passport, for exa...

Re: Weapons-UK (Archery & Knives)

Now that it is not 5am my time I had another idea for a fast barrier. A ladder placed in a narrow area (hallway, walkway, etc.) would slow people down trying to get past it. Any tripping hazard would do. You could make it worse during hours of darkness by placing a bright light shining towards the a...

Re: Weapons-UK (Archery & Knives)

it's all I've got and I'd use anything to try and keep my family safe. I would never make fun of a man for expressing that thought. It is the primary reason I went from being just a guy that likes guns and reading survival books, to an actual prepper. That said I would offer some constructive criti...

There is a difference between the Firearms Certificate and the Shotgun Certificate. I can understand not wanting to be on any government lists though.

Re: Weapons-UK (Archery & Knives)

From what I understand it is pretty easy to get your shotgun certificate in the UK. Basically a matter of filling out the paperwork correctly. Have you tried looking in to that? In an emergency a properly loaded 12 ga shotgun will take any game available in the UK and makes darn good medicine for hu...

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

I think this episode , after last weeks cliffhanger from a marketing standpoint is genius and probably about the only place they could have placed such a slow, no advance to the storyline episode. I bet I'm the only one who thought Eastman should have been wearing a long cloak or robe .... " He was...

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

I will have to look for a pocket sized copy of Art of War and Art of Peace. I already have a pocket copy of Zen in the Art of Archery that I keep in my pack. Probably going to be hard to fine the Art of Peace for a while after that episode. Already out of stock on Amazon. I am still trying to figur...

Re: Things Headed South in Iraq

I guess it is official we are back in the war in Iraq (again). Maybe I can go back to work. Been a while since I was accused of committing war crimes. Whelp they paid $500,000,000 to raise an Army of 6 people in Syria. I'd have gladly have done it for $25,000,000 and saved them a bundle. Plus I wou...

I also think that particular line of dialog when Nick's hospital roommate coded was a little on the subtle side. It was aimed at particularly attentive viewers/those with some knowledge of treatment protocols. It went right over my head and people can be excused for misconstruing it. That's part of...

Re: How to Legally Own Firearms in the UK - Section 1 Firear

The long barrel pistol thing has always interested me, and I have a few questions about them. Under UK law are they considered rifles or pistol exempt from the ban because of their size? I have seen centerfire double action revolvers in long barrel format. Are centerfire pistols allowed? If so would...
